Job Title: Forklift Operator Job Description

This role supports high-volume warehouse operations in a large, modern logistics facility. You will operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to safely unload, move, stage, and load products, while accurately tracking inventory using computers or RF scanners. The position requires consistent attention to safety, detail, and efficiency in a fast-paced environment on a second-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move products to the correct destination within the warehouse.

  • Efficiently stage, stack, and load merchandise in designated areas to support outbound and internal operations.

  • Move products from staging and unloading areas into the correct load door and assigned trailer.

  • Ensure trailers are properly secured and chocked before entering, in accordance with safety policies.

  • Load and unload products using appropriate handling techniques to prevent damage and ensure safety.

  • Segregate, check, and stage inbound products correctly based on shipment and destination requirements.

  • Verify that the driver, trailer, and shipping documents match the specific carrier and location.

  • Count freight with the driver and ensure all documentation and procedural requirements are followed.

  • Load trailers for safe transit and ensure drivers sign all required paperwork before departure.

  • Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking of products as needed.

  • Pack orders, validate inventory counts, print labels, and prepare shipments for loading.

  • Build pallets, shrink-wrap pallets, and use a pallet jack to organize orders prior to loading.

  • Use RF scanners or computer systems to scan products in and out and accurately track inventory.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including sweeping, organizing, and general housekeeping.

  • Maintain an orderly desk or office area associated with warehouse operations.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of equipment and personal protective gear.

  • Perform other assigned duties such as cleaning, organizing, and supporting general warehouse tasks as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Recent forklift certification obtained within the last 2 years.

  • Ability to operate forklifts safely in a warehouse environment, including loading and unloading trailers.

  • Ability to utilize computers or RF scanners to scan products in and out and track inventory.

  • Experience with packing, picking, material handling, and general warehouse labor.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform continuous standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.

  • Experience with loading and unloading trucks and working with shipping and receiving processes.

  • Ability to use pallet jacks to move and organize pallets.

  • Comfort working with warehouse inventory systems and order picking tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail when verifying drivers, trailers, bills of lading, and freight counts.

  • Commitment to following safety procedures, including trailer securing and chocking requirements.

  • Availability to work 2nd shift from 3:30 PM to midnight, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional 10-hour days.

  • Steel-toed boots or shoes suitable for a warehouse environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using RF scanners for order picking and inventory control.

  • Background in shipping and receiving within a warehouse or logistics environment.

  • Familiarity with building and shrink-wrapping pallets for safe transit.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, client-focused logistics or third-party warehousing operation.

  • Comfort working with multiple types of freight and sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, healthcare, consumer retail, and food and beverage.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new, approximately 628,000 square foot, climate-controlled, well-lit, and extremely clean warehouse facility. The operation is part of a global third-party logistics provider that delivers supply chain solutions across air, truck, ocean, and other modes, serving sectors such as automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, healthcare, consumer retail, and food and beverage. The site employs around 250 people across warehouse and office functions and maintains a highly client-focused culture, consistently going above and beyond to meet customer needs. You will work on 2nd shift from 3:30 PM to midnight, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of occasional 10-hour days. The environment involves frequent use of forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and inventory systems, with continuous standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift. Steel-toed boots or shoes are required as part of the dress code, and the facility emphasizes safe work practices, organized workspaces, and strong teamwork.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belleville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
