The Forging Technician is responsible for shaping, forming, and finishing metal components through traditional and modern forging techniques. This position requires a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to produce high-quality forged components that meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and company quality standards. Job Responsibilities/Duties: • Operate equipment including power hammers, presses, hydraulic presses, and hand forging tools. • Heat, shape, bend, upset, taper, twist, punch, and draw various ferrous and non-ferrous metals. • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, fabrication drawings, and work orders. • Produce custom forged components including decorative and structural elements. • Maintain proper forging temperatures and select appropriate heating methods for various materials. • Perform layout work and measure finished parts using precision measuring tools. • Grind, clean, and finish forged products to meet quality standards. • Work with fabrication, welding, machining, and finishing departments to ensure proper fit/assembly. • Inspect work for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and structural integrity. • Identify defects and make corrections before components move to the next stage of production. • Maintain forging equipment and report maintenance needs promptly. • Follow all company safety procedures regarding hot work, lifting, equipment operation, and personal protective equipment (PPE). • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards. • Assist in developing efficient forging methods for new products and custom projects. Requirements & Qualifications • Trade school or formal blacksmithing, forging, or metal fabrication training preferred. • Minimum of 3-5 years of forging or heavy metal fabrication experience preferred. • Strong understanding of metal behavior under heat and pressure. • Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings. • Experience operating forging presses, power hammers, torches, and related equipment. • Knowledge of metallurgy and heat treatment processes is preferred. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment Pay range • $25 - $30/hour (DOE)
