Overview

Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is seeking a Force Employment Analysis Division Chief (GS‑1515‑15) for the Office of Studies & Analysis (SAF/SA) in Washington, D.C. at the Pentagon. The role leads a Headquarters Division of approximately 20 mission‑ and engagement‑level operations research analysts, military operators, and modeling and simulation engineers. The division advises top Department of the Air Force leadership on future force capability and force structure investments, using tools such as the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) and advanced optimization, design of experiments, simulation, and data analysis techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first‑level supervisor, planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over approximately 20 nonsupervisory military and civilian employees.
  • Lead the research effort to model, simulate, and assess the performance of state‑of‑the‑art Air Force and Space Force systems.
  • Provide expert guidance and analysis to the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff of the Air Force on force employment and investment decisions.
  • Oversee the use of AFSIM and other advanced modeling and simulation tools to support mission‑level and engagement‑level analysis.
  • Develop and implement new methodologies and ideas to improve analytical capabilities and support strategic decision‑making.
  • Coordinate meetings, conferences, seminars, and reviews; advise directorates on complex studies and issues.
  • Maintain effective relationships with departmental stakeholders, information sources, and project team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, and manage resource allocation and scheduling for analytical activities.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Security Clearance.
  • Drug testing position.
  • Degree in operations research or at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, or related scientific courses, with at least 3 of those hours in calculus.
  • Knowledge and operational experience in air combat operations, cyber operations, joint classified capabilities, and current and future operational concepts and capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Department of the Air Force program goals, key operational events, and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions.
  • Strong leadership, managerial, and organizational skills, including the ability to lead work groups, meetings, conferences, seminars, and reviews.
  • Ability to originate new ideas and methodologies, demonstrating operational leadership and judgment required for a command position.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, originality, and foresight regarding the impact of emerging technologies.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $169,279 – $197,200. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available.
