CustodianThe custodian is responsible for keeping a District building and immediate building grounds clean, safe and presentable. The individual understands and follows simple oral and written instruction. They perform lifting and routine manual cleaning, understand the functioning of mechanical equipment, and effectively operate vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines and other custodial equipment.
They use care in the use of custodial equipment and cleaning materials, able to lift and move moderate loads (40-60 lbs.) on a regular basis and heavier loads (60-100 lbs.) on less frequent basis. They establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff and the public, communicate effectively, demonstrate proficient use of English language in written and oral forms, and use/operate computer equipment related to the position.The custodian works to well-established standard procedures in an assigned building without immediate supervision. They dust furniture, clean, wash floors, walls and carpeting, clean washrooms, including replenishment of towels, soaps and tissue.
They notify the Head Custodian of any vandalism, needed repairs, equipment and supplies. They mow lawns or remove snow, maintain building security, properly use appropriate safety equipment and procedures, often move, lift or push furniture, large items, supplies, etc. They perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
