nPOSITION PURPOSE
nRegistered Respiratory Therapist who is responsible for performing various therapeutic procedures including advanced practice procedures such as, but not restricted to operating balloon pumps (IABP), delivering inhaled Epoprostenol, performing basic bedside respiratory parameters. Participates in orientation of staff and student training programs for Trinity Health which is a teaching institution representing the Respiratory Care department.

Submits availability for a minimum of two 12-hour shifts per schedule period where at least one of the shifts occurs on a weekend (i.e., Saturday or Sunday).

Allowable, eight-hour shifts only in the following situations

After the minimum requirement of two 12-hour shifts during the schedule period has been met

If called last minute to accommodate an unplanned staffing need (i.e., sick calls, increased patient volume, etc).

Submit to work one holiday 12-hour shift per year, which may be rotated each year.

If circumstances arise whereby you arrive to work at Trinity Health and it is determined that staffing is such that services are not required, you will receive two (2) hours of pay and sent home.

In reference to shift availability submission, shifts will be assigned on an as-needed basis. Specifically, shifts requested may or may not be granted, and assignment of requested shifts depends solely upon the department needs.

If timely schedule availability is not submitted for two consecutive schedule periods, my employment may be terminated at the discretion of the manager.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE

Graduate of a two-year advanced practitioner -Accredited Respiratory Therapist program: Registry eligible.

Maintain current RRT credential

Maintain valid State of Michigan License in Respiratory Care

nServes as a consultant, resource person, and role model representing respiratory care in the health system committees or work groups as needed.
nMaintains the confidentiality of information according to HIPPA guidelines.
nFacilitates good rapport and cooperative relationships approaching conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
nMaintains safe respiratory therapy practices, alerts leadership of any safety issues or concerns.
nPerforms all duties and responsibilities of a Respiratory Therapist per AARC guidelines obtains and maintains competencies per the Registered Respiratory Therapist orientation. Some examples below:
nCardiopulmonary arrest situations
nOther emergency situations
nParticipates in patient rounds
nEnsure treatments are provided in accordance with physician orders and approved medical protocols.
nEnsures that equipment is in safe operating condition and contacts repair personnel or Charge therapists as appropriate
nBased on clinical assessment of patient situations, suggests changes in therapies, etc., to medical staff to benefit cardiopulmonary patient care.
nDemonstrates knowledge of procedure(s) for oxygen and medical air shutdown.
nMaintains knowledge of and reviews pertinent hospital and all departmental policies and procedures.
nPrioritizes and addresses conflicting requests for respiratory care services.
nProvides high quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent practice and application of the respiratory care practice process.
nDemonstrates annual unit/area competencies
nParticipates in new educational programs and equipment/ procedure implementations.
nFacilitates instruction of staff or students during clinical training, providing feedback when applicable.
nOther duties as assigned.

nCompletes Health Stream yearly on a timely basis per Trinity Health standards
nResponsible for own education for professional growth and maintains log of activities.
nREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABLILITES
nConsistently exhibits interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, physicians and other health personnel and department management during all situations and inline with our mission and values.
nUtilizes analytical skills necessary to identify patient's needs.
nPossesses and exhibits the ability concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 100% of wk time.
nAbility to walk and stand for approximately 60% of work time and to lift, pull, push and carry portable equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
nREPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
nGeneral supervision is received from The Lead Respiratory Therapists and reports up to the Manager and Director of the Respiratory Care Department.
