Fleet MechanicThe Fleet Mechanic supports Cooper Steel's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of the Cooper Steel team, performance includes demonstration of the following accountabilities: communication, teamwork, job knowledge and leadership.POSITION SUMMARYThe Fleet Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing equipment. This position will require traveling to our jobsites and shops as necessary to repair and maintain equipment.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, ProductionInspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair various equipment including vehicles, forklifts, tools, cranes, welders, etc.Understand and diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues with gas and diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, hydraulic systems, etc.Ability to troubleshoot all different types of equipment issuesPerform and coordinate preventative maintenance inspections and servicingComplete DOT annual inspectionsConduct routine equipment inspections and identify maintenance needs before failures occurChange and repair tires as neededWash trucks and other equipment as neededMaintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, repair documentation, and service schedules for company equipment and vehiclesMonitor and maintain inventory of parts and maintenance supplies necessary to support fleet operationsCoordinate with outside vendors, repair facilities, and equipment manufacturers to facilitate specialized repairs, warranty work, and technical supportMaintain relationships with outside contractors and vendors and coordinate work as neededTravel to job sites and other shop locationsOther duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNoneQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or equivalent3-5 years related experience (including automotive, construction/ erection equipment, light & heavy diesel, AC/DC electrical, welding)Valid CDL (Class A required)ASE Certification or technical school preferredOTHER SKILLSStrong functional and technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; ability to work independently; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others; strong mathematical skills; basic computer skills.While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping required.

Specific vision abilities are required. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.WORK ENVIRONMENTPosition performs work mostly at jobsites and other Cooper Steel locations which includes a variety of working conditions.

These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
