PositionPurpose

TheFleetandSafetyManagerensuresAFSemployeeshavesafevehicles,reliableequipment,andthetrainingandsupportneededtoperformtheirworksafely.

ThispositionleadsfleetoperationsandthecompanysafetyprogramacrossAFSofficesandfieldoperations.WorkingcloselywithHR,branchmanagers,supervisors,andemployees,theFleetandSafetyManagerestablishesconsistentpractices,identifiesrisks,resolvesdeficiencies,andholdsteamsaccountableforfollowingcompanystandards.

TherolesupportsAFSmaintenance,restoration,andconstructionserviceswhileprotectingemployees,reducingpreventableincidents,andkeepingvehiclesandequipmentreadyforwork.

EssentialResponsibilities

FleetManagement

  • Maintainanaccurateinventoryofcompanyvehicles,trailers,andassignedfleetequipment,includinglocation,condition,mileage,andemployeeassignments.
  • Managepreventivemaintenance,inspections,repairs,registrationrenewals,andsupportingrecords.
  • Coordinatewithrepairvendorstocontrolcosts,reducedowntime,andmaintainservicequality.
  • Establishandenforcestandardsforvehiclecleanliness,care,inspections,andreportingdamageormechanicalproblems.
  • Managevehicleassignments,transfers,employeehandoffs,andreturns.
  • Monitortelematicsanddriverbehavior,includingspeeding,harshbraking,unauthorizeduse,andotheridentifiedrisks.
  • CoordinatedriverqualificationreviewsandapproveddriverrecordswithHRAndinsurancepartners.
  • Investigatevehicleincidents,documentfindings,andcoordinaterepairsandcorrectiveaction.
  • Reviewfleetexpensesandrecommendvehiclereplacement,purchasing,ordisposalbasedoncondition,utilization,andoperatingcosts.

WorkplaceandJobSiteSafety

  • Leadandmaintainthecompanysafetyprogramacrossoffices,jobsites,andfieldoperations.
  • Conductregularsafetyinspectionsandfieldvisitstoidentifyhazards,coachemployees,andverifycorrectiveaction.
  • Maintainsafetypolicies,procedures,andtrainingappropriatetoAFSoperationsandapplicablerequirements.
  • Partnerwithsupervisorstoimplementjobhazardassessments,dailysafetydiscussions,andrequiredsafetydocumentation.
  • Monitortheproperselection,availability,condition,anduseofpersonalprotectiveequipment.
  • Coordinatesafetyorientationfornewemployeesandongoingtrainingforexistingemployees.
  • Supportsafepracticesinvolvingtools,ladders,lifting,driving,chemicals,andotherhazardsassociatedwithmaintenance,restoration,andconstructionwork.
  • Maintainsafetytrainingrecords,inspectionreports,andcorrectiveactiontracking.
  • CoordinateemergencypreparednessandworkplaceviolencepreventionactivitieswithHRandbranchleadership.

IncidentResponseandPrevention

  • Respondpromptlytoworkplaceinjuries,vehicleaccidents,propertydamage,andnearmisses.
  • Investigateincidents,identifycontributingfactors,andrecommendpracticalmeasurestopreventrecurrence.
  • Ensureincidentdocumentationisaccurate,timely,andsharedwiththeappropriatecompanycontacts.
  • CoordinatewithHRoninjuryreporting,workers’compensationdocumentation,andreturntoworkarrangements.
  • Verifythatcorrectiveactionsarecompletedandeffective.
  • Useincidenttrendsandemployeefeedbacktoimprovetraining,equipment,andworkpractices.

LeadershipandAccountability

  • Serveastheprimaryresourceforfleetandoperationalsafetyquestions.
  • Buildproductiverelationshipswithfieldemployeesandleadersacrossalloffices.
  • Communicateexpectationsclearlyandaddressunsafepracticesconsistently.
  • PartnerwithHRandmanagersondocumentedcoachinganddisciplinarymatters.
  • Provideleadershipwithregularreportsonfleetcondition,safetyperformance,costs,andunresolvedrisks.
  • Recommendimprovementsthatsupportsafeoperationsandresponsiblecompanygrowth.

AuthorityandWorkingRelationships

TheFleetandSafetyManagerisauthorizedtostopworkwhenanimmediatesafetyhazardisidentifiedandremoveunsafevehiclesorequipmentfromservice.Themanagercoordinatescorrectiveactionandconfirmsappropriateconditionsbeforeworkoruseresumes.

Branchmanagersandsupervisorsremainresponsiblefordailysafetyexecutionwithintheirteams.TheFleetandSafetyManagerestablishesstandards,providessupport,monitorsperformance,andescalatesunresolvedconcerns.

HRretainsresponsibilityforemploymentdecisions,benefitsadministration,andpersonnelmatters.Thispositionsuppliesthefacts,documentation,andoperationalrecommendationsneededtosupportthosedecisions.

MeasuresofSuccess

  • Preventivemaintenanceandrequiredinspectionsarecompletedonschedule.
  • Fleetrecords,vehicleassignments,anddriverrecordsareaccurateandcurrent.
  • Vehicledowntimeandavoidablerepairexpensesaremonitoredandreduced.
  • Safetytrainingiscompletedanddocumentedwithinestablisheddeadlines.
  • Safetyinspectionsproducetimely,verifiedcorrectiveactions.
  • Incidentsandnearmissesarereportedpromptlyandinvestigatedthoroughly.
  • Preventablevehicleincidentsandworkplaceinjuriesdecreaseovertime.
  • Employeesandsupervisorsunderstandexpectationsandconsistentlyfollowsafepractices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experiencemanagingworkplacesafety,fleetoperations,oracombinationofbothinconstruction,restoration,maintenance,facilitiesservices,orasimilarfieldenvironment.
  • Workingknowledgeofvehiclemaintenanceprograms,driversafety,incidentinvestigation,andjobsitehazardrecognition.
  • Abilitytodeveloppracticalproceduresandmaintainaccuraterecordsacrossmultiplelocations.
  • Strongcommunication,organization,coaching,andproblemsolvingskills.
  • Abilitytoaddressconcernsdirectlyandprofessionallywithemployees,managers,andvendors.
  • Proficiencywithspreadsheets,reportingtools,anddigitalrecordkeepingsystems.
  • Validdriver’slicenseanddrivingrecordthatmeetscompanyrequirements.
  • AbilitytotravelregularlytoAFSofficesandjobsites.

Preferred

  • Threeormoreyearsofrelevantfleetorsafetyexperience.
  • Experiencesupportingoperationsacrossmultiplelocations.
  • FamiliaritywithCaliforniaworkplacesafetyrequirements.
  • OSHA30training,CHSTcertification,oranotherrelevantsafetycredential.
  • Experienceusingfleettelematicsandmaintenancetrackingsystems.
  • Experiencecoordinatinginjurypreventionandreturntoworkactivities.
  • AbilitytocommunicateeffectivelyinEnglishandSpanish.

WorkEnvironment

Thispositioncombinesofficeworkwithregularvisitstoactivejobsites,companyyards,andotheroperationallocations.Dutiesmayinvolveoutdoorconditions,unevensurfaces,stairs,andenvironmentsrequiringpersonalprotectiveequipment.

Occasionalsupportoutsideregularbusinesshoursmaybenecessaryforseriousincidentsorurgentfleetissues.Essentialdutiesmaybeperformedwithreasonableaccommodation.
