Laird Noller Ford of Lawrence is seeking an experienced, driven, and results-oriented Fixed Operations Director / Service Manager to lead our service department and help take our growing dealership to the next level.

We have an established team of talented technicians, including multiple Ford Senior Master Certified Technicians, long-tenured employees, and a tremendous amount of untapped potential. We are looking for a strong leader who understands dealership operations, knows how to develop people, and can drive profitability while maintaining an exceptional customer experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Service Manager ready to grow or an established Fixed Operations Director looking for a long-term home with a family-owned automotive group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily service department operations, including technicians, advisors, dispatch, and support personnel.
  • Drive departmental profitability through effective expense management, labor sales, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Establish and monitor departmental goals, budgets, and performance expectations.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs), including effective labor rate (ELR), hours per repair order, technician productivity, efficiency, gross profit, and customer satisfaction.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop service department personnel.
  • Ensure proper repair order processes, warranty compliance, documentation, and timely closing of ROs.
  • Minimize comebacks, policy adjustments, and unnecessary expenses.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and resolve escalated customer concerns professionally.
  • Ensure proper scheduling, workflow, dispatching, and shop capacity management.
  • Identify opportunities to increase customer-pay, warranty, and internal service revenue.
  • Work closely with Parts, Sales, Accounting, and Executive Management to achieve dealership objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with Ford Motor Company standards, dealership policies, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and productive work environment.

Experience & Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous automotive dealership Service Manager, Fixed Operations Director, or comparable leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of driving profitability, improving departmental performance, and leading successful teams.
  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements, service department KPIs, labor rates, and expense management.
  • Experience managing technicians, service advisors, and departmental workflow.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to hold employees accountable while providing coaching and professional development.
  • Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS), Microsoft Office, and reporting tools.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete employment pre-screening requirements.

Preferred:

  • Ford dealership management experience.
  • Familiarity with Ford warranty processes, manufacturer programs, and reporting.
  • Experience developing and implementing departmental budgets and growth strategies.
  • Demonstrated success improving customer satisfaction and employee retention.

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while performing administrative duties.
  • Frequent use of computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to safely navigate an active service shop environment, including exposure to noise, moving vehicles, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle as needed for dealership business.
