Fitter Fabricator

Job Description

A large, AISC-certified steel-fabrication shop in St. Louis is seeking an experienced Steel Fitter / Fabricator . This role focuses on laying out, fitting, and assembling structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects.

The shop produces stairs, railings, embeds, catwalks, custom components, and light structural assemblies using CNC and automated fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to plan fit-up and assembly
• Lay out, measure, cut, drill, grind, and prepare steel components
• Fit and assemble stairs, railings, embeds, catwalks, and structural assemblies
• Tack weld components and perform MIG welding as needed
• Check dimensions, alignment, and fit before final welding
• Move material using overhead cranes
• Maintain a clean and safe work area

Qualifications

• Experience fitting and fabricating structural or miscellaneous steel
• Strong blueprint reading and layout skills
• Ability to read a tape measure and work accurately with fractions
• MIG tack welding and general welding ability
• Experience with stairs, railings, or custom steel fabrication preferred
• Overhead-crane experience preferred
• Ability to pass a fitting and weld test
• Dependable attendance and strong attention to detail
