Firmware EngineerAn advanced defense technology organization is seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop embedded software systems powering autonomous platforms.This role focuses on low-level firmware development, embedded systems architecture, hardware/software integration, and real-time systems. The ideal candidate has strong experience developing production-quality firmware and enjoys working hands-on across electronics, sensors, actuators, and embedded platforms.This is a high-impact engineering role where firmware moves from concept through prototype development and real-world deployment.Embedded Firmware DevelopmentDevelop and maintain embedded firmware for STM32 microcontrollers.Design and implement: low-level drivers, hardware interfaces, peripheral communications, real-time embedded applications.Develop reliable firmware solutions for autonomous systems.Hardware & Software IntegrationWork at the intersection of electronics, sensors, actuators, motor control systems, and embedded software.Troubleshoot hardware/software interactions.Support debugging, testing, and system optimization.Communication & Systems DevelopmentDevelop and integrate communication protocols including UART, SPI, I²C, CAN.Support embedded architecture decisions and real-time system design.Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).3+ years of professional firmware engineering experience.Strong experience with embedded C/C++ or Rust development, STM32 microcontrollers, firmware architecture and debugging, production-quality embedded software.Solid mechatronics understanding.Experience troubleshooting hardware and software interactions.Experience with embedded communication protocols: UART, SPI, I²C, CAN.Preferred QualificationsExperience in aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomous systems.Familiarity with UAV/drone systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded development environments.Experience with Rust embedded frameworks, async embedded development, taking systems from prototype through deployment.Experience working in startup or high-growth engineering environments.Additional RequirementsMust meet ITAR eligibility requirements.Must be authorized to work in the United States.Must be comfortable working onsite in Leander, TX.Hands-on engineering experience preferred.BenefitsCompetitive compensation package.Equity/stock options.Health insurance coverage.Vision and dental benefits.Life insurance.Opportunity to work on advanced autonomous technology.
