Fire Protection Engineer (Remote or Hybrid)
Join Stantec as a full‑time Fire Protection Engineer working remotely or hybrid. The role reports to the Charlottesville, VA Office and may involve collaboration with local specialists and the German team.
Overview
The successful candidate will serve as a technical authority for fire protection engineering, advising on complex projects and ensuring compliance with codes and standards. Responsibilities span project design, construction support, and business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design fire suppression systems such as sprinklers, standpipes, special hazard systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and smoke control systems.
- Perform calculations and analyses using standard and proprietary software.
- Gather data to support design decisions and prepare drawings, specifications, presentations, and technical reports.
- Verify compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate with architecture and engineering teams under the direction of a senior engineer.
- Provide construction support: review submittals, respond to RFIs, conduct progress inspections, and perform acceptance testing.
- Lead project coordination meetings and client engagements.
- Mentor peers, conduct quality assurance/control, and assist in developing new standards and specifications.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and maintain project scope, budgets, and design approach.
- Assist in business development activities such as proposal development and presentations.
Key Capabilities and Credentials
- Proficiency with Revit, sprinkler design add‑ons (AutoSprink), and hydraulic calculation software.
- Experience with CFD modeling (FDS, ASCOS) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Building codes, NFPA standards, and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Pre‑employment drug screening required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering.
- Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) on Federal projects preferred.
- Fully licensed Fire Protection Engineer in at least one US state.
- Experience working in office and field environments.

Pay Range
Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA & NJ areas: $117,800–$176,800 annually.
