As a Fire Alarm/Low Voltage Technician, you will play an important role in the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm and related low-voltage systems. You will work closely with project managers, supervisors, customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure systems are installed and maintained safely, correctly, and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, project requirements, and manufacturer specifications.

We are seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and motivated Fire Alarm/Low Voltage Technician to join our Fire Alarm Department. The Fire Alarm/Low Voltage Technician will be responsible for installing, servicing, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems and related low-voltage electrical components.

The successful candidate will demonstrate mechanical aptitude, electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to understand and follow technical instructions, drawings, diagrams, codes, and manufacturer requirements.

Responsibilities may include installing and servicing fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, sensors, pull stations, wiring, conduit, junction boxes, and other related equipment. The position will also involve troubleshooting ground faults, shorts, open circuits, equipment failures, and other system conditions using appropriate testing equipment, including a digital multimeter.

The Fire Alarm/Low Voltage Technician must be able to work safely in active construction environments, communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, customers, contractors, and coworkers, and maintain a professional approach while representing the company in the field.

Previous experience with fire alarm systems, low-voltage electrical systems, security systems, or related electrical construction is preferred. Knowledge of applicable fire alarm, electrical, building, OSHA/Cal/OSHA, and other regulatory requirements is preferred. Employees will be expected to develop and maintain working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures.

Core Responsibilities

• Install fire alarm control panels, annunciators, audible and visual notification appliances, pull stations, detectors, modules, sensors, and related equipment.
• Install, configure, and upgrade fire alarm and related low-voltage systems.
• Install and maintain fire alarm wiring, conduit, junction boxes, terminals, equipment, and associated components.
• Fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain conduit and related electrical components.
• Attach conduit to walls, structures, fixtures, and other surfaces using appropriate brackets, clamps, tools, anchors, and fastening methods.
• Measure, mark, cut, and bend conduit according to project requirements.
• Strip, pull, label, route, and terminate wire to fire alarm devices and equipment.
• Use appropriate methods and materials for wire termination, including crimps, solder, shrink tubing, electrical tape, wire nuts, and terminal blocks when applicable.
• Follow project drawings, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and supervisor direction when installing equipment and systems.
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional work areas throughout installation activities.
• Inspect, examine, and test installed fire alarm systems and components.
• Test fire alarm devices and circuits using appropriate fire alarm testing equipment and procedures.
• Perform visual and audible testing of notification appliances and system components.
• Perform battery and load testing as required.
• Diagnose and repair faults in fire alarm and related low-voltage systems.
• Use a digital multimeter and other appropriate testing equipment to troubleshoot ground faults, shorts, open circuits, voltage issues, continuity issues, and other system conditions.
• Identify and correct wiring problems, device failures, equipment malfunctions, and communication issues.
• Troubleshoot fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, circuits, and related components.
• Assist with system upgrades, modifications, expansions, and programming changes.
• Verify programming and system functionality following installation or modifications.
• Maintain accurate documentation of programming changes and system configurations.
• Follow established company procedures and manufacturer requirements when making programming or configuration changes.
• Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
• Arrive at work, scheduled meetings, and assigned project locations on time and prepared to perform assigned duties.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience installing, servicing, testing, or troubleshooting fire alarm systems is preferred.
• Previous experience with low-voltage electrical systems, security systems, electrical construction, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience using a digital multimeter and other electrical testing equipment is preferred.
• Experience installing and terminating low-voltage wiring is preferred.
• Experience installing or working with conduit is preferred.
• OSHA-10 training must be completed within the first three months of employment.
• CPR and First Aid training must be completed within the first three months of employment.
• Industry certifications and manufacturer-specific training are a plus.
