Build the Modern Service Network for Heavy Equipment
At Heave, we are taking on one of the most overlooked problems in construction: heavy equipment downtime.
For too long, contractors have been stuck relying on dealer service departments that are slow, expensive, opaque, and not built around the urgency of a jobsite. A machine sitting still can cost a contractor $1,000 an hour.
We give contractors and fleet owners a faster way to get field service done, through vetted independent technicians, transparent pricing, technician choice, and multi-brand coverage. Median time from service request to first technician response is under two minutes. Nearly 80% of jobs are completed within 24 hours.
We defeat downtime. That is the whole company.
We are looking for an accomplished Financial Controller to lead Heave's finance function and build the financial foundation for our next stage of growth.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own financial control, reporting, planning, and cash management, giving leadership a clear and trusted view of the numbers while bringing greater financial discipline to decision-making across the company.
This is a chance to shape how finance operates inside an ambitious, fast-growing marketplace connecting contractors with independent field technicians nationwide. You will combine rigorous financial control with commercial insight, building a scalable finance function that can support Heave's growth for years to come.

- Provide the CEO with clear reporting on performance, risks, and priorities.

- Identify performance gaps, challenge assumptions, and ensure actions are agreed and owned.
- Support strategic decisions through robust analysis of investments, costs, growth opportunities, and commercial trade-offs.
Cash and Commercial Control
- Own cash flow forecasting, working capital, and short- and medium-term liquidity visibility.
- Strengthen control across revenue, technician invoicing, supplier payments, credit control, and customer collections.
- Build clear visibility of gross margin, account profitability, and the underlying economics of the marketplace.
- Lead the finance side of migrating off legacy payment infrastructure onto a scalable, lower-cost rail.
Finance Function and Systems
- Build scalable finance processes, systems, controls, and reporting that can support continued growth.
- Improve the quality and consistency of data flowing between Heave's platform, operational processes, and finance systems.
- Develop the capability, structure, and priorities of the finance function as the business evolves.
- Work across Product, Sales, Operations, and the leadership team to embed strong financial ownership throughout Heave.
Skills and Experience
- Fully qualified accountant, CPA or equivalent US qualification.
- 8+ years experience in a Financial Controller or comparable accounting position.
- Proven ownership of financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and business performance.
- Strong technical knowledge of US accounting requirements, statutory reporting, audit, tax compliance, and financial governance.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to connect financial results to operational drivers and business decisions.
- Experience improving finance processes, systems, reporting, and data quality within a scaling or changing organization.
- Confident operating directly with a CEO, providing clear advice and constructive challenge.
- Comfortable combining senior leadership responsibilities with hands-on ownership of the financial details.
- Experience in a technology-enabled marketplace or operationally complex business would be advantageous.
