This is a hands-on leadership role for a finance professional who can seamlessly shift between reviewing complex reconciliations, analyzing job-cost or route-level variances, coaching staff, and presenting clear financial insights to executive leadership. You will play a vital role in connecting financial data with field operations to drive discipline, strengthen internal controls, and support scalable, profitable growth across all service lines. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will own the integrity of consolidated, branch-level, divisional, and job-level financial reporting, drive operational accounting efficiency, and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
Responsibilities:
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring accurate, complete, and GAAP-compliant financial statements on a consistent schedule.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accruals, intercompany activity, and payroll accounting.
- Establish robust standards for account reconciliations, journal entries, supporting documentation, and balance sheet integrity.
- Deliver consolidated and divisional reporting packages for the CFO, executive leadership, board members, lenders, and key financial partners.
- Partner with branch managers, division leaders, and project managers to improve margin visibility across labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
- Lead monthly financial reviews linking operational performance (crew productivity, utilization, production schedules, change orders) to financial outcomes.
- Oversee job-cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, backlog tracking, and over/underbillings for installation and hardscape projects.
Preferred Skills:
- Active CPA designation.
- Direct experience in a multi-branch landscaping, construction, or specialty contracting business supporting both project-based construction and recurring service models.
- Background in construction accounting practices (retainage, equipment costing, inventory management, WIP schedules).
- Hands-on experience implementing or upgrading an ERP, field-service platform, or financial reporting system.
- Prior experience operating in a private equity-backed environment or managing lender/board reporting.
- Public accounting background combined with operational accounting leadership.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent combination of relevant education and substantial accounting leadership experience.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years leading an accounting function as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and strong experience with ERP/accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite); experience with field-service, estimating, or payroll system integrations is highly valued.
- Proven ownership of the financial close, GAAP standards, WIP reporting, backlog, percentage-of-completion accounting, and multi-unit/branch reporting.
- Must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background check
