nAbout the Role
nHerring Bank is seeking a highly technical, self-directed Financial Accounting Senior Accountant to join our Finance team.
nThis senior individual contributor role is responsible for executing the Bank’s regulatory reporting and consolidation cycle in partnership with the Financial Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate combines strong regulatory knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, and a control-focused mindset.
nYou will play a hands-on role in preparing the Bank’s Call Report, ensuring data from core systems accurately maps to regulatory requirements, while helping improve and automate existing reporting processes.
nWhat You’ll Do
nPrepare, validate, and compile the quarterly FFIEC Call Report, periodic holding company FR Y series filings, and other federal and state regulatory filings for management review and submission.
nPerform monthly and quarterly holding company consolidations, including intercompany eliminations, equity method entries, and preparation of consolidated financial statements.
nPrepare investment portfolio accounting entries and CECL/allowance entries under the methodology established by the Chief Financial Officer.
nProvide accounting support related to asset-liability management.
nPrepare supporting schedules and workpapers for federal and state tax returns and serve as a day-to-day liaison with external tax advisors.
nMaintain deferred tax workpapers.
nDesign and maintain tie-out procedures to ensure regulatory schedules reconcile to the general ledger and core banking sub-ledgers.
nPrepare workpapers and respond to external auditor and regulatory examiner requests related to Call Report logic, consolidations, and accounting treatments.
nIdentify manual bottlenecks in reporting and cross-system data aggregation and recommend opportunities for automation.
nWhat We’re Looking For
nStrong hands-on knowledge of FFIEC Call Report instructions and schedules.
nWorking knowledge of regulatory capital rules and ratios.
nAbility to independently manage complex, deadline-driven work with minimal supervision.
nStrong analytical skills and a control-oriented approach to accounting and reporting.
nA process-improvement mindset with an interest in replacing manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes with scalable solutions.
nQualifications
nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
nCPA or eligibility to sit for the CPA exam is a plus.
n5–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
nAt least 2–3 years of hands-on experience preparing bank regulatory filings and consolidations.
nStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, bank accounting guidelines, intercompany transactions, CECL, and regulatory capital rules.
nAdvanced Excel skills, including data modeling, Power Query, and INDEX/MATCH.
nExperience with core banking systems and regulatory reporting software.
