R.E.G. Sales & Service is looking for an experienced Generator Technician – Major Repairs to join our growing generator repair team.

This position will primarily focus on generators brought into our facility for major diagnostics, teardown, repair, rebuild, and testing. We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot beyond basic preventive maintenance and parts replacement and who understands how to properly diagnose the root cause of generator failures.

• Diagnose commercial and industrial generator failures
• Perform detailed incoming inspections and initial diagnostics
• Troubleshoot diesel and natural-gas engines
• Troubleshoot generator ends, excitation systems, voltage regulation, and controls
• Perform engine teardown and major mechanical repairs
• Remove and install generator ends, engines, radiators, fuel-system components, and related equipment
• Diagnose and coordinate alternator/stator/rotor repair and rewind work
• Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Perform electrical and mechanical testing before and after repairs
• Assist with load-bank testing and final operational testing
• Identify root cause rather than simply replacing failed components
• Document measurements, findings, repairs, parts required, and recommendations
• Provide information needed to build accurate repair estimates
• Maintain an organized work area, tools, parts, and equipment
• Follow REG safety procedures and quality standards
• Work with service management and other technicians on complex repairs

• 3+ years of commercial/industrial generator experience preferred
• Strong diesel-engine and generator troubleshooting ability
• Understanding of AC/DC electrical systems
• Experience with generator controls and voltage-regulation systems
• Ability to use meters and diagnostic equipment correctly
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical manuals
• Experience with major engine or generator repairs is strongly preferred
• Experience with Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, MTU or other major manufacturers is a plus
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to involve other technical resources
• Strong attention to detail and documentation
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

This is not primarily a preventive-maintenance position.

We're looking for someone who wants to work on the difficult jobs—generators with major failures, complex diagnostics, engine problems, alternator problems, electrical faults, and equipment requiring extensive repair.

REG is continuing to expand its in-house generator repair capabilities, and this technician will play an important role in building that operation.
