Field SpecialistHBK Engineering is seeking a Field Specialist, this position that combines advanced technical surveying expertise with specialized knowledge and training responsibilities. This role involves utilizing sophisticated surveying equipment to collect accurate field data while executing various types of surveys including topographic, boundary, construction layout, and as-built surveys. The position requires extensive experience in data processing and analysis, along with the ability to offer technical expertise to project teams and develop training programs for survey techniques and software usage.

Office location: Chicago, ILWhat You'll DoUtilize surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, levels) to collect accurate field data with precisionExecute various types of surveys including topographic, boundary, construction layout, and as-built surveysGather, process, and analyze data on land features, elevations, distances, and angles using specialized softwareCreate detailed maps, plans, and cross-sections using computer-aided design (CAD) softwarePrepare comprehensive reports summarizing survey findings and recommendationsOffer technical expertise to project teams, including engineers, architects, and construction managersConduct site assessments and provide recommendations for optimal survey strategiesTroubleshoot survey-related problems and propose effective solutionsDevelop and conduct training programs on survey techniques, data analysis, and software usageProvide mentorship and guidance to junior field staff and techniciansMove about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways safely and efficientlyCommunicate effectively with diverse project teams and stakeholdersEnsure compliance with surveying standards and best practices.What You'll BringHigh school diploma or GED certificateBachelor's degree preferred10+ years of construction support, field data collection and coordination, or surveying experienceProfessional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferredValid driver's license (CDL not required)Knowledge of total station survey equipment and GPS survey equipment operationsKnowledge of infrastructure and public right-of-waysSelf-motivated and proactive attitude with good interpersonal communication skillsAbility to effectively communicate with diverse teams and stakeholdersPhysical capability to move about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkwaysAbility to lift up to 40 poundsAbility to walk and stand for extended periods of timeAbility to sit, kneel, and squat on a daily basis with minimal frequency of kneeling and squattingHand-eye coordination necessary to operate surveying equipment and take measurementsAbility to perform outdoor standing and/or walking work every day.What You'll GetSenior technical specialist role with extensive surveying expertise and responsibilityOpportunity to provide technical expertise to diverse project teams including engineers, architects, and construction managersLeadership in developing and conducting training programs for survey techniques and software usageProfessional development in advanced data processing, analysis, and CAD software applicationsOpportunity to conduct site assessments and provide strategic recommendations for survey strategiesProblem-solving leadership in troubleshooting complex survey-related challengesClear career progression pathway within the HBK Organization's Field/Survey TrackMentorship opportunities with junior field staff and techniciansProfessional certification support for Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) credentialsAdvanced preparation for senior field operations and surveying management roles.Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability and employer paid life insurance.
