Digital Electronics Engineer – FPGA / ASIC Design

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Digital Electronics Engineer to join an established aerospace and avionics organization developing advanced electronic systems for commercial and military aircraft.

This position is focused on hands-on digital hardware design, with an emphasis on FPGA/ASIC development, programmable logic, VHDL, and DO-254 compliance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in digital circuit design and enjoys working through the full development lifecycle, from initial design and implementation through verification, integration, and certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop digital electronic hardware utilizing FPGAs, ASICs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers.
• Develop and implement programmable logic designs using VHDL and other applicable hardware description languages.
• Perform RTL design, simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis.
• Develop testbenches and execute functional verification to validate digital designs.
• Support hardware development activities in accordance with DO-254 certification requirements.
• Work closely with electrical, hardware, and software engineering teams to integrate digital designs into avionics systems.
• Troubleshoot complex digital hardware issues and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Participate in technical design reviews, requirements development, and design documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Professional experience designing and developing digital electronic hardware.
• Hands-on experience with FPGA and/or ASIC design and development.
• Strong proficiency in VHDL, RTL design, and programmable logic implementation.
• Experience with digital design simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis.
• Familiarity with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus, or similar platforms.
• Experience working with DO-254 processes and certification requirements.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in aerospace, avionics, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience developing safety-critical electronic hardware.
• Knowledge of Verilog or SystemVerilog.
• Familiarity with hardware verification, requirements traceability, and formal design reviews.
• Experience supporting digital hardware designs from initial development through qualification and production.
