Field MechanicThe main responsibility of the Field Mechanic is for the onsite maintenance needed to keep equipment operating in the field. Field Mechanic applies automotive mechanics knowledge related to the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and special equipment all while working in a field environment. Receive instructions from the supervisor and perform work to make sure it conforms to established regulations and procedures.

Must be a professional mechanic at the gasoline, diesel and senior mechanic level, with solid knowledge and experience in a wide variety of skills. These skills include, but are not limited to, equipment service and repair of Mobile Hydraulics, Aerial Hydraulics, OSHA Boom Inspections, BIT Biennial inspections of terminals, Air Brakes, Diesel and Gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms maintenance and repair of company owned, rented or borrowed, electric utility-related vehicles (service, construction, transport and passenger vehicles) and various types of equipment.Conducts visual, auditory and operational inspection of vehicles and equipment to identify and troubleshoot problems for repair; identifies problem causes; researches problems via repair manuals, schematics, OEM's, service bulletins and other mechanics, as neededRepairs / Rebuilds Vehicles & Components - Uses hand tools and power tools to disassemble, access and re-assemble equipment or components; removes and replaces broken or worn parts (such as cylinders, brakes and gaskets); performs tune-ups and electrical repairs.Uses power and hand tools to access, remove and/or replace worn or broken partsChanges oil and filters; cleans and lubricates moving parts; identifies worn parts for preventative repair workInspects, maintains and repairs vehicles and special equipment installed in said unitsCompletes all duties and responsibilities of a gasoline, diesel and senior mechanic in a field environment.Reads and interprets schematics and blueprints.Follows all policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.Performs major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned.Education and ExperienceHighschool Diploma or GED ExperienceSelf-starterDetail orientedComputer literateWelding and Fabricating skillsAbility to read and interpret schematics and blueprintsExam Requirements (passed the following exam required for this class):General SkillsDefensive Diving DOTMedical ExaminationHave 5 years of experience in the tasks performed at the Gasoline, Diesel or Senior Mechanic level is preferred.Experience with Microsoft Office programs, and ability to use an FMIS Fleet Management Information System to input and research maintenance history information as neededGood Welding and Fabricating skills.Self-starter and detail-oriented individualLicense/CertificationsValid Puerto Rico driver's license Category 9 is requiredPermit to Operate Commercial Vehicle from The Transport and Other Public Services Bureau (NTSP, "Negociado de Transporte y Otros Servicios Públicos de Puerto Rico")Driver's Record (DTOP)Hold a Automotive Technician in Mechanics of Heavy Equipment and Trucks or Technician Mechanics in Automotive Vehicles license issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board of Automotive Mechanics and Technicians.ASE Certification (T-Series 1-8) DesiredSpecial Endorsement for hazardous materials from NTSP is preferredTravel Requirements100%Physical DemandsStationary Position: FrequentlyPushing/ Pulling/ Reaching: ConstantlyClimb: ConstantlyKneel: ConstantlyGrab: ConstantlyBend: ConstantlyLift/ Carry over: 31-50 LBSVision: Vision acuity to operate vehicleHearing: Understanding sounds required for operating vehicleWorking ConditionsWet or humid: ConstantlyWorking near or on moving mechanical parts: ConstantlyWorking near or on heavy machinery: ConstantlyWorking in high places: N/AExposed to fumes or airborne particles: SeldomExposed to toxic or caustic chemicals: SeldomFrequency of working in outdoor weather conditions: ConstantlyWork with electricity: N/AWork with explosives: N/AWork on or near a source of radiation: N/ALoud Noise conditions (above 87 db.): FrequentlyOther environmental factors including weather conditions.This position is classified as a safety-sensitive function and is subject to the U.S. Department of Transportation's drug and alcohol testing regulations under 49 CFR Part 40.
