Field Hockey Club Technical Director

Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities

• Work with club leadership to establish annual technical goals and priorities
• Work with club leadership to determine seasonal events/showcases to attend
• Help determine coaching assignments and staffing needs
• Track player and program outcomes and recommend improvements for upcoming seasons
• Attend relevant tournaments, meetings, and professional development events

Technical & Player Development

• Work with club leadership to develop and oversee the club's overall field hockey curriculum and playing philosophy
• Help establish age-appropriate technical, tactical, physical, and mental development goals
• Create consistent standards for skills, team concepts, and player progression across age groups
• Identify and support talented players and create pathways for advanced development
• Evaluate player development and provide feedback to athletes and families when appropriate
• Help recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor club coaches
• Establish coaching standards and expectations
• Provide coaches with practice plans, training resources, and technical guidance
• Observe practices and games and provide constructive coaching evaluation when needed
• Help ensure consistency in coaching philosophy throughout the club

Program & Team Oversight

• Oversee the technical direction of all club teams and programs
• Assist with team formation/evaluations, player placement, and appropriate competition levels
• Coordinate training schedules and ensure practices align with the club's development model
• Support coaches with game strategy, tournament preparation, and team management
• Monitor the overall quality and effectiveness of the club's programming

Recruitment & Growth

• Build relationships with local schools, high school and college programs, and field hockey organizations
• Help develop camps, clinics, clinics, showcases, and specialized training programs
• Assist in growing participation and strengthening the club's reputation

Tentative Schedule/Season

Fall -

2 x a week Practices, 3 x a week Small Group/Private Lessons

Attend 2-3 Tournaments

Attend 2-3 tryout dates

Winter -

3 x a week Practices, 1 x a week Small Group/Private Lessons

Site Director for in house tournaments Sat OR Sun

Travel to external tournaments as needed (league play, NIQ, NIT)

Prep Showcase teams for Winter Showcases - 3-5 practices + attend showcase

Attend 2-3 tryout dates

Spring -

3 x a week Practices, 2 x a week Small Group

Travel to external tournaments as needed

Prep RCC Teams

Summer -

1 x a week League Play, 4 x a week Small Groups/Private Lessons

Direct 2 weeks of Summer camp

Attend 2-3 tryout dates
