About the Role

We're hiring a Field Deployment Technician to own the hands-on side of putting AI hardware into production: racking, cabling, and bringing up on-premises appliances inside client data centers, then proving each one is ready before the software team takes over.

The client is an AI infrastructure company that delivers on-premises AI and compliance software to banks, credit unions, and other regulated organizations. You'll be based in Chicago and travel to client sites about 25% of the time, with travel costs fully covered. On each deployment you'll partner with an implementation lead who runs the project plan and the client relationship, so your focus stays on the hardware and getting it right the first time.

If you're the person who labels every cable and still takes the as-built photos when nobody asked, this role will feel familiar.

What You'll Do

• Rack, cable, and power up appliance hardware in client data centers and server rooms, following each site's cable management and labeling standards
• Handle on-site logistics: equipment shipping or hand-carry, badge access and escorts, loading dock timing, and change window scheduling
• Set up out-of-band management (iDRAC, iLO, or IPMI), apply firmware and BIOS baselines, and complete initial network bring-up
• Validate every install before handoff, covering power redundancy, network reachability, and thermal and health checks
• Document the job cleanly with serial and asset records, as-built photos, port maps, and a completed install checklist
• Serve as the hardware and connectivity point of contact for client IT and data center staff while on-site
• Know when to escalate. Product, security, and scope questions go to the implementation lead.

Qualifications

Required

• 2 to 4 years of hands-on server hardware installation in data center or enterprise environments (colocation, MSP, internal IT, or vendor field service all count)
• Comfortable with rail kits, PDUs, redundant power, and structured cabling in both copper and fiber (SFP+/QSFP)
• Working knowledge of out-of-band management tools, BIOS and firmware updates, and the basic Linux command line
• Solid network fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, DNS) and enough troubleshooting skill to tell which side of the demarc a connectivity problem lives on
• Flexibility to travel on client timelines, including occasional after-hours or weekend change windows
• Able to pass a financial-institution vendor background screening
• Clear written documentation and a professional presence in client environments

Nice to Have

• GPU server or AI/ML appliance deployment experience
• Field service background in banking, credit unions, or another regulated industry
• Network+, CCNA, or equivalent
• Familiarity with vendor security reviews and remote support tooling
