Fiber Optic Technician Adjunct InstructorLaredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year. Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas. The Fiber Optic Technician Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on, and classroom instruction in the Certified Fiber Optic Technician program. The instructor is responsible for preparing instructional materials, delivering classroom and laboratory instruction, evaluating student performance, maintaining a safe learning environment, and ensuring compliance with institutional and industry standards. The instructor will support student success by delivering high-quality workforce training aligned with Fiber Optic Association (FOA) standards and current telecommunications industry practices.Characteristic duties and responsibilities include:Develop course/program curriculum to address the particular area of instruction via face-to-face, virtual, and/or hybrid delivery methods.Provide instruction in the following content areas: Fiber Optic Fundamentals, Fiber Optic Installation, Fiber Splicing, Fiber Testing, Broadband Infrastructure, Safety Procedures, and Industry Standards.Prepare tailored course documentation such as lesson plans, course syllabi, assignments, and quizzes/exams.Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct.Adapt to different teaching styles to accommodate the student population and instructional delivery modes.Keep accurate attendance records and submit required continuing education class documents in a timely manner.Provide students with information about course goals, requirements, course content, evaluation methods, and required classroom/lab behavior.Measure each student's progress through written exams, practical demonstrations, and performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental instruction when necessary.Demonstrate proper use of fiber optic equipment, tools, testing devices, fusion splicers, and related telecommunications technology.Ensure students follow all industry safety procedures and maintain a safe learning environment during classroom and lab activities.Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment, classroom/lab, and all teaching materials.Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and follow FERPA standards.Work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends depending on class demand.Participate in training activities as needed by the department.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director, Dean, Associate Provost/South Campus Administrator, Provost/Vice-President of Academic Affairs, or President.Required documents to be considered for this position include your resume and unofficial transcript(s). In addition, if a license or certificate is required for this position, upload proof of your current license/certificate.Required:High School Diploma or Equivalent5 years of professional full-time experience in Fiber Optics including installation, maintenance, splicing, testing, broadband systems or telecommunications infrastructure.Valid State Driver's License.Preferred:Associate degree or technical certification in Fiber Optics, Telecommunications, Electronics, Industrial Technology or related field.Previous teaching, instructional or workforce training experience.

Experience with Fiber Optics Association (FOA) standards and certifications.Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Instructor (CFOS/I) certification preferred. Candidates who are not currently certified must be willing and able to obtain FOA CFOS/I Instructor Certification prior to the start of assigned course instruction.Knowledge, skills and abilities include:Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems, telecommunications infrastructure, broadband installation, and fiber optic testing procedures.Knowledge of industry safety standards, including OSHA regulations and safe handling of fiber optic equipment and materials.Ability to design and deliver engaging, competency-based instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, or virtual formats.Skilled in the use of instructional technologies such as Zoom, CANVAS, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to demonstrate and supervise hands-on technical training activities.Ability to evaluate student learning fairly and ethically.Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain accurate records and comply with institutional reporting procedures.Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and commitment to student success.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.Additional information includes:Supervision exercised: None.
