Job Summary: Job Location: This job opportunity will entail both in-clinic and in-community opportunities with refugee and immigrant populations through the primary care clinic, Center for International Health (CIH). CIH employs a unique clinic model which aims to build skills of navigation of the American health system and treatment in newly arrived immigrants for approximately the first 5-10 years or until they prove they have gained the identified skills. We work with a multidisciplinary team which includes care coordination, integrated behavioral health, psychiatry, pharmacy, green card services, and heavy coalition building with community-based organizations.

Job Duties: In the clinic the employee will assist with clinical work flows including but not limited to accompanying patients to other parts of the building and hospital such as the lab, assisting in retrieving medications from the pharmacy, assisting with health education of individual patients, organizing and re-stocking donation storage, assisting care coordination team with specified tasks to address social determinants of health barriers, performing pre-visit chart reviews to note preventative health screens and services which are due, as well as ensuring proper documentation of existing health maintenance metrics, and other patient care enhancement, quality initiative, and documentation activities as identified by clinical staff and leadership teams. In the community the employee will assist with the organization and implementation of the annual Refugee Health Fair, assist in weekly community health screenings as needed, assist in seasonal flu and covid vaccine clinics as needed, and other community-based activities identified by CIH leadership and community stakeholders. You will not be required to complete all these tasks regularly, and additional tasks that do not fall under these categories may be assigned based on clinic needs; your supervisor will be assigning you tasks on a weekly or daily basis, and some tasks may become regular responsibilities.

Skills: This is a dynamic position which requires cultural humility, dedication to health equity, and creative self-directed work ethic. Experience with a global population and proficiency in multiple languages preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a current student enrolled at Upstate Medical University and approved for financial aid through the Student Financial Aid office at Upstate.

Negotiable based on class schedule within 8 AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday with occasional night and weekend offerings.

Salary Range/Pay Rate:

$17/HR
