FACULTY POSITION AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY, UCSD – Ocean Acoustics
Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor position with a research focus on experimental ocean acoustics. The successful candidate will establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership in the field while complementing existing expertise at Scripps and other UCSD departments. SIO is a renowned center of marine research with a commitment to academic excellence and diversity. The department seeks candidates who have demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and service toward an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain an innovative research program in experimental ocean acoustics, including areas such as marine physics, underwater sound propagation theory/modeling, ambient sound, signal processing, and acoustic sensing technology development.
- Contribute to teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students and provide leadership in classroom instruction.
- Collaborate with SIO and UCSD departments to advance interdisciplinary research and secure extramural funding.
Qualifications
- PhD in Oceanography, Physics, Engineering or a related field.
- Competitive record of publication and service, and evidence of ability or strong potential to secure extramural funding.
- Experience or potential to lead a sea-going research program and mentor students; strong teaching credentials preferred.
