Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a one-year Lecturer in Applied Communication. This position will teach a full 5/5 load in a variety of speech communication courses (i.e., Gateway courses) with long waitlists. Courses will include face-to-face and online sections.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Teaches a full load of courses (5/5) in the Department of Communication.
- Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, etc.) as necessary.
- Devotes time outside of the classroom to assist and mentor students.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught.
- Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
- See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication or related field & Communication course teaching experience.
- Evidence of online course design and teaching.
- Teaching strengths should complement the current department curriculum.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of a wide variety of courses, including interpersonal, organizational communication, public relations, research methods, communication theory, and other COMM classes.
- Knowledge of effective teaching principles for the course(s) taught.
Skills
- Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard).
Abilities
- Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
- Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with people.
- Ability to share a variety of perspectives.
