Maintains that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.Essential Job FunctionsTeaches assigned course(s) on campus by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, and addressing students' questions and concernsTeaches assigned course (s) online by delivering course content, learning activities and assessments using the university's learning management system, according to JWU course outlines and online course delivery standardsPrepares and maintains course site in the learning management system for dissemination of course materials, assessments, and weekly updating of the grade center in accordance with university requirementsMaintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and proceduresDistributes to each student, in each course, via the learning management system, a university-approved syllabus that includes course objectives, required course materials, attendance policy and evaluation criteriaCommunicates early with the student, department chair, and academic counselor for any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling, using appropriate university systemsRefers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career services, library services, academic support, accessibility services, counseling, and other support servicesPopulates the university's faculty information system with data to establish teaching credentials and maintains data, as neededAttends faculty orientation and meetings, as requested by the collegePerforms other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsMaster's degree or Ph.D.
in criminal justice, criminology or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales UniversityFive or more years of professional work experience in criminal justice or other related workAbility to teach daytime, campus-based classes in Providence, R.I.Preferred QualificationsExperience with teaching at the post-secondary levelQualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Providence Campus location upon hire.College/university transcripts are required prior to hire.By applying to this posting, you are entering an applicant pool for adjunct faculty which will be hired on an as needed basis for the academic year.
