Facilities TechnicianThe National Aquarium is seeking a Facilities Technician responsible for keeping all buildings, equipment and grounds well-maintained, clean, and working in all Aquarium Buildings in a first-class manner. Providing on-site support for locks and doors, general carpentry and commercial maintenance. This individual will support the Life Support (LS) Department by performing daily inspections of all LS water transfer equipment.

Assess, repair, replace, rebuild and maintain all mechanical equipment as necessary and perform work on basic systems not typically found in a journeyed trade. Complete work-orders in a proactive and customer-oriented manner. Valid drivers license required.

Must have weekend availability.Key RequirementsKeep all buildings, equipment and grounds well-maintained, clean, and working in all Aquarium Buildings in a first-class mannerRepair and replace internal and external door and lock systemsGeneral carpentry, architectural maintenanceSupporting maintenance of mechanical systemsResponsible for work in all Aquarium buildings and groundsFull knowledge and experience of journeyed trade including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and/or pump system tradesGood working knowledge non-journeyed trades including areas such as Ozone, life support systems, pumps, motors, sand filters, etc.Learn and master critical skills in other journeyed trades to ensure complete cross-training within Facilities team to ensure work orders can be completed by any Facilities team member when requiredMaintain all facilities systems to operate consistently and reliablyMaintain Life Support & general building pumping systemsTroubleshoot and solve problemsWorking knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft OfficeAbility to be flexible and work on unrelated problems and projects within one dayCommunicate regularly with staff in other departments, in particular the status of work orders, changes, complications, completions and resolutionsCoordination of work between facilities and other departments, such as Life Support and Operations, to minimize disruptions to the daily business and visitorsOversee all major pump repairs made by outside vendorsAbility to complete work and projects in a timely fashion and within the set scheduleAbility to work weekends and holidays as scheduledSupport company missionAdhere to all organizational and departmental policies and proceduresOther duties as assigned or requiredQualificationsHigh School Education, or equivalentMust be able to work with minimal supervisionMust have a minimum of 5-6 years in the specified trade of which at least 1 year was at the Journeyman level. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and Journeyman certificate preferred. The specified trades of interest include but are not limited to Electrical, Plumbing, Pumps, Mechanical, and CarpentryLocksmith experience preferredSafety and CPR TrainingAbility to pass DOT PhysicalMust have a valid drivers license and ability to be insured by organization policy for fleet vehiclesTotal Compensation InformationHourly range ($ per hour) with hours worked over 40 in a week eligible for overtime, premium pay for National Aquarium recognized holidays, and shift differential for overnight shifts.
