Facilities Maintenance Technician II (Job Class: Building Systems Specialist)

Facilities Maintenance Technician IISt. Louis County is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to fill their Facilities Maintenance Technician II role. These positions support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of County-owned facilities.

This role plays a key part in keeping our buildings running smoothly for employees, residents, and visitors. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, public service, and maintaining community assets that directly support County operations.Examples of DutiesCandidate must participate in On-Call rotationPerform routine and corrective maintenance on building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systemsMaintain and troubleshoot HVAC equipment including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, air handlers, and related systemsMonitor and adjust controls, gauges, valves, thermostats, and energy management systems to ensure a comfortable and efficient environmentConduct regular building rounds, verify operating conditions, and complete necessary repairsPerform general building maintenance, including basic carpentry, lighting, hardware, and fixture repairsComplete preventive maintenance tasks following County standards, manufacturer guidelines, and industry best practicesInspect mechanical rooms, generators, pumps, and life-safety systems; document findings and communicate issues promptlySupport fire and life-safety compliance through inspections and adherence to NFPA and local codesRespond to facility emergencies, building system failures, and occupant concerns in a timely, professional mannerMaintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment and comply with all County safety procedures, policies, and training requirementsRepresent the County professionally through adherence to uniform and appearance standardsPerform other duties as required or assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDAt least four (4) years of experience operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a commercial or institutional settingEquivalent to graduation from Technical School or completion of a formal apprenticeship in a skilled building systems tradeValid driver's licensePreferred QualificationsCompletion of a trade school program or apprenticeship - two-year minimumApplicable trade licenses or certifications (e.g., HVAC, boiler operation, asbestos etc.)Experience with energy management systems and large-scale facility operationsBasic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)EPA 608 Universal certification – must have or obtain within 6 months of hire date
