Extension Educator - District 13 Director, MSU Extension

Overview

As part of the MSU Extension Administrative Team, this leadership position is for the District 13 Director who will support the counties of Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren. The district director’s role is to develop, maintain, and coordinate relationships between MSU Extension and local community partners, provide oversight and mentoring to staff housed in the district, and to employ entrepreneurial efforts to secure resources with other partners. You are responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing relationships within the district, including working closely with county boards of commissioners on budgets and other matters related to the work of MSU Extension, telling our story to partners and organizations, and ensuring that we are not the best kept secret, but a known and trusted partner within the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and coordinate relationships between MSU Extension and local community partners.
• Provide oversight and mentoring to staff housed in the district.
• Employ entrepreneurial efforts to secure resources with other partners.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships within the district; work closely with county boards of commissioners on budgets and other matters related to MSU Extension.
• Tell our story to partners and organizations, and ensure visibility as a trusted partner within the communities served.
• Lead efforts to recruit and hire staff; work in partnership with MSU Extension Institute Directors to develop, coach, and mentor staff; address personnel matters when applicable.
• Operate within a unionized setting and interpret and apply labor relations practices and collective bargaining agreements.
• When applicable, utilize flexible work environment with the expectation to work from an MSU Extension County office located within District 13.
• Understand that needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of position and office location drive the level of work-location flexibility.

Appointment Terms

• The initial appointment is for one year in the fixed-term academic appointment system.
• With satisfactory performance, nine months into the appointment, a two-year extension will be provided at the end of the first year.
• Thereafter, the incumbent will be considered for additional three-year fixed-term appointments.
