Successful candidates will play a critical role in the earth-moving operations, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. This role's responsibilities include operation of multiple pieces of mining equipment; Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, Excavators, and other support equipment to assist in the extraction and handling of materials, contributing directly to the success of the mine's operations.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform earthmoving and support duties in a mining environment, as directedConduct and appropriately document daily pre-operational inspectionsIdentify potential machine issues and consult with maintenance to execute prompt repairsEffectively communicate with supervisors, fellow operators, and ground personnel in order to coordinate work and ensure safetyUtilize radios or other communication systems on the job site with appropriate and respectful communication tacticsUnderstand and adhere to local and national mining regulations, including environmental protection standards and operational safety guidelinesTroubleshoot operational issues, perform adjustments, and find practical solutions to challenges faced during excavating and mining tasksIdentify and report workplace hazards and incidents through the Company's safety management systemWork independently and with a team to adapt to the changing demands of the mining operationObserve and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing PPEManage timecards effectivelyPerform other duties as assignedRequired SkillsMinimum of 3 yrs recent experience working on large-scale mining projects, particularly in open-pit mines: Dozers D6-D11, Haul Trucks: At least 100 ton, Graders: 16 M, Excavators: 6015Demonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at timesGood oral and written communication skillsHigh level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skillsAbility and willingness to work different schedule on site based on project needsAbility to work with other project employees to meet the project's safety, environment, and production targetsAbility to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environmentFamiliarity with mine site safety protocols, procedures, and environmental regulationsPrior experience working in adverse and remote environments (extreme weather, difficult terrain) is an assetValid driver's license at time of hire, maintained throughout employment with ThiessAuthorization to work lawfully in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess is requiredMust be fluent in the English languagePhysical RequirementsAble to lift 50 poundsAble to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees FahrenheitAble to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb laddersAble to work for extended 12-hour shiftsCan work night shifts six days at a time and properly manage fatigueNo auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)Quick response/reaction timesArm-hand steadiness and manual dexterityWeight below 350 lbsEducationHigh School Diploma or equivalentValid equipment operator certifications, with a proven safety record in mine or construction operationsMust have or be willing to acquire site-specific safety training (e.g., MSHA, First Aid/CPR)Additional InformationWork schedule: 14 on / 7 off, rotating day and night between the 14-day swingsThe suitable candidate will travel on a Fly In / Fly Out (FIFO) or Drive In, Drive Out (DIDO) arrangementSafety Classification: Non-DOT, Safety CriticalWhat We OfferA work environment where safety is always the number one priority.
