Exploration Geoscientist

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Responsibilities

  • Leads integrated regional evaluations, play analysis, and prospect identification and assessment across frontier, emerging, and mature petroleum basins. The role combines geology, geophysics, geochemistry, basin modeling, petrophysics, and commercial analysis to identify advantaged exploration opportunities, characterize uncertainty, and support portfolio and investment decisions.
  • The successful candidate will plan and conduct regional studies using seismic, well, outcrop, gravity and magnetic, geochemical, stratigraphic, and production data. Responsibilities include developing regional structural and stratigraphic frameworks, reconstructing basin evolution, defining gross depositional environments, and evaluating source, reservoir, seal, overburden, trap, charge, and timing relationships. The individual will recognize new play concepts, identify play fairways, and determine the geological conditions required for exploration success.
  • The role will generate, mature, and rank leads and prospects through seismic interpretation, depth conversion, seismic attribute analysis, well correlation, analog assessment, and integration of petroleum-system information. The individual will define trap geometry, assess reservoir presence and effectiveness, evaluate hydrocarbon charge and containment, estimate prospective resources, and quantify geological chance of success. Assessments will distinguish shared play-level risks from prospect-specific risks and document dependencies between opportunities.
  • The Senior Exploration Integrator will build probabilistic volumetric models, evaluate uncertainty ranges, and compare prospects using risked resource, economic value, strategic fit, data quality, and commercial-access considerations. Responsibilities also include recommending additional seismic acquisition, reprocessing, special studies, or exploration wells that materially reduce uncertainty or improve opportunity value.
  • As a senior integrator, the individual will lead multidisciplinary reviews, provide technical assurance, mentor less-experienced geoscientists, and clearly communicate exploration concepts, risks, uncertainties, and value propositions to technical teams, partners, and investment decision-makers. The role may also support acreage evaluations, licensing rounds, farm-in and farm-out opportunities, data-room assessments, and new-country or new-basin entry studies.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • 10 + years of oil and gas exploration experience, including regional interpretation, play analysis, and prospect maturation.
  • Strong expertise in seismic interpretation (Quantitative interpretation), structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, petroleum systems analysis, and basin evolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate seismic, well, geological, geochemical, and potential-fields data at basin, play, and prospect scales.
  • Experience identifying leads and prospects, constructing maps, performing depth conversion, estimating prospective resources, and assessing geological chance of success.
  • Working knowledge of probabilistic volumetrics, risking, decision analysis, exploration economics, and portfolio ranking.
  • Ability to develop and test multiple geological hypotheses while clearly separating observations, assumptions, interpretations, and uncertainties.
  • Strong technical judgment, project leadership, technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
  • Right to work in the USA

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience evaluating frontier or underexplored basins, emerging plays, and mature-basin near-field opportunities.
  • Expertise in clastic and/or carbonate depositional systems and conventional petroleum systems.
  • Experience with seismic stratigraphy, seismic attributes, velocity modeling, depth uncertainty, amplitude interpretation, basin modeling, and source-to-sink analysis.
  • Familiarity with applications such as Petrel, Kingdom, PetroMod, ArcGIS, Spotfire, Power BI, Python, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with regional 2D and 3D seismic datasets, gravity and magnetic data, play-fairway mapping, common-risk segment mapping, and yet-to-find analysis.
  • Knowledge of SPE Petroleum Resources Management System principles for prospective-resource classification and reporting.
  • Experience supporting licensing rounds, acreage capture, bid evaluations, joint-venture reviews, farm-in decisions, and exploration portfolio management.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through peer reviews, prospect-assurance panels, mentoring, publications, conference presentations, or recognized subject‑matter expertise.
