Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Patent Attorney to join its Intellectual Property Practice in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have over three years of relevant experience and a strong technical background to support a diverse client base in patent prosecution and strategic IP management.

Duties

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage domestic and international patent applications.
  • Conduct patentability searches and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Develop strategic IP portfolio management for clients.
  • Counsel clients on complex issues under 35 U.S.C. §§ 101, 102, 103, and 112.
  • Collaborate on post-grant proceedings and patent litigation matters.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing of at least one state bar.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • 3+ years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Strong technical background in relevant fields.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and strategic thinking.

Education

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills

  • Strong technical background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking.
