The Airforwarders Association (AfA) is the leading trade association representing air freight forwarders and logistics providers operating across the global air cargo supply chain. AfA advocates for fair and practical regulatory policies, promotes operational efficiency and security, and provides members with critical industry intelligence, networking, and education.
AfA seeks an experienced Executive Director to serve as the organization’s chief executive officer and primary industry voice. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead advocacy efforts, support member engagement, oversee association operations, and guide the organization’s strategic direction.
This role requires a highly visible leader who can effectively represent the interests of freight forwarders and logistics providers before federal agencies, policymakers, and industry stakeholders while managing the day-to-day operations of a lean, high-impact organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning and execution in partnership with the Board of Directors
- Serve as AfA’s primary representative with federal agencies including TSA, CBP, FAA, and FMCSA
- Support advocacy and government affairs initiatives affecting the air cargo industry
- Drive membership growth, engagement, and value delivery
- Oversee organizational operations, staff, and financial management (approx. $900K budget)
- Represent AfA at industry events, conferences, and media engagements
Qualifications
- Senior leadership experience in a trade association, logistics, freight forwarding, or air cargo environment
- Experience in government affairs, regulatory engagement, or policy advocacy
- Understanding of member-driven organizations and Board governance
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
Compensation & Location
Salary expected in the low-to-mid $200K range, commensurate with experience. Location flexible, with proximity to Washington, DC preferred. Approximately 30% travel.
