CHURCH Executive Director

Position: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt Employee
Hours per Week: 40+
The Church exists to make disciples and multiply churches. We do this by equipping our body to grow in God into lives of worship, community, and mission.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, administration, and strategic initiatives of the church. This individual works closely with the Lead Pastor and church leadership to ensure effective implementation of the church’s mission and vision. The Executive Director provides leadership to align the people, resources, and practices of the church to the task of making disciples and multiplying churches. This is a high-level leadership role that ensures the organizational health and operational excellence of the church body.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Day-to-day supervision: This position reports directly to the Lead Pastor.
  • Leadership authority: This position operates under the authority and oversight of church leadership. The Executive Director is accountable for the effective execution of their responsibilities.
  • Governance role: While this is an administrative and operational staff position (nonvoting), the Executive Director regularly attends leadership meetings to provide operational updates, offer insights, and contribute to strategic discussions.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

People

  • Supervises, develops, and supports administrative and ministry staff, fostering a healthy, collaborative, and Christ-centered work environment.
  • Partners with the Lead Pastor and church leadership to ensure staff and volunteer roles are aligned with the church’s mission and vision.
  • Oversees human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and staff care.
  • Equips and resources ministry leaders and volunteers, providing guidance, encouragement, and administrative support.

Provision

  • Oversees the church’s financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, stewardship, and resource allocation.
  • Ensures responsible management of church assets, including facilities, equipment, and technology.
  • Oversees implementation of the Facilities Management Plan and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Practices

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates operational policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with the Lead Pastor and church leadership to develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Oversees internal and external communications, including digital platforms, print materials, and public relations.
  • Continuously assesses and improves administrative systems and processes to enhance ministry effectiveness.

KEY RHYTHMS

  • Weekly rhythms: Lead staff meetings as needed; coordinate with the Lead Pastor; oversee weekly financial and operational workflows.
  • Seasonal rhythms: Staff performance reviews; ministry alignment check-ins; strategic initiative tracking.
  • Annual rhythms: Lead the annual budgeting process; facilitate annual strategic planning; oversee year-end financial reporting and compliance.
  • Meetings: Attends staff meetings, team prayer, leadership meetings, and other leadership gatherings.

COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION

Promotes clear and effective communication among staff, volunteers, and the congregation. Ensures seamless communication and alignment between church leadership and day-to-day operations.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Supports other ministry initiatives and performs additional duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor or church leadership.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND EXPECTATIONS

This role includes a combination of office-based work and relational ministry. The schedule will regularly require early mornings, evenings, and weekends. As a full-time, exempt position, hours may vary depending on ministry needs, and flexibility and availability are essential.
