Executive DirectorNew Energy Economy was founded in 2004 to build a carbon-free energy future for our health and the environment. New Energy Economy is known for our bold positions and watch-dog role as the organization goes head to head with New Mexico's largest corporation, Public Service Company of New Mexico, the formidable oil and gas industry, and their political allies to expose the fatal flaws of the current extractive energy model and its corrupting influence on our political system, to lift up, demonstrate, and demand an alternative democratized, resilient, and just energy system, and to fight for accountability and environmental, economic and racial justice for New Mexicans.New Energy Economy employs public education, direct action, public policy advocacy, targeted litigation methods, and model solar energy projects to shift our energy economy from fossil fuel and nuclear extraction to clean alternatives in pursuit of environmental justice and human and environmental health.New Energy Economy is looking for a new organizational leader, spokesperson, and chief fundraiser for its next phase of growth and impact. New Energy Economy is in the second stage – expansion phase – of organizational development and is in an extremely favorable environment for rapid growth and adoption of its vision of a just transition to renewables and democratized energy.

The Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for NEE staff, campaigns, expansion, and advancement of NEE's mission and will develop new strategic initiatives and relationships in the energy field, with NGOs, government, labor unions, funders, and businesses committed to justice-centered climate actions. The Executive Director will strengthen and expand: 1) New Energy Economy's support base of both funders and advocates; 2) Its organizational capacity and ability to grow sustainably; and 3) Energy democracy policies and initiatives working with environmental, climate justice and frontline organizations.Key duties and responsibilities include leadership and management, development and communications, program and policy development, planning and new business, and operations.Qualifications and experience required include cultural competence to work in and with communities of color, demonstrated commitment to environmental, climate, and economic justice, ability to effectively collaborate and build coalitions with diverse groups of disparate interests, demonstrated history of financial management and fundraising in support of a high figure organizational budget, a 10-year track record of mid- to senior-level management experience, excellence in organizational management, recognized expertise in climate, social justice, sustainability, or community economic development fields, and a Bachelor's degree. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of senior/executive non-profit or private sector management experience, a Master's Degree in relevant field, and compensation in the range of $90,000-$135,000, commensurate with experience, as well as comprehensive benefits including health and generous vacation and sick/personal day policies.
