Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavator-based dredge equipment to excavate and remove submerged material to specified depths and grades
- Read and interpret survey data, grade stakes, GPS/laser guidance systems, and dredging plans
- Load spoil into barges, trucks, or place material in designated disposal/containment areas
- Perform pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on excavator and dredge attachments
- Monitor water depth, turbidity, and environmental compliance requirements during operations
- Position and reposition barge or spud platform as work progresses
- Coordinate with survey crews, deckhands, and site supervisors
- Follow OSHA, USACE, and environmental permit requirements (erosion control, silt curtains, etc.)
- Maintain accurate production logs and material quantity records
- Respond to changing water/weather conditions and adjust operations safely
- Valid excavator operator certification/experience (2+ years preferred, dredging-specific experience a plus)
- Familiarity with GPS/machine-guidance dredging systems (e.g., DredgePack, HYPACK) preferred
- Ability to work on water-based platforms (barges, pontoons)
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather, climb, and handle marine equipment
- OSHA 10/30 certification preferred; TWIC card often required for port/waterway work
- Valid driver's license; CDL a plus for hauling spoil
- Strong mechanical aptitude and safety focus
- Outdoor, marine/waterfront environment; may require travel to job sites, extended stays, or offshore/inland waterway assignments
- Physically demanding; may involve swing/shift schedules
