Responsibilities
- Lead a product development squad on the Joist product, guiding a team by example and instilling values of kindness, diversity, quality, and ownership.
- Coordinate and communicate with peers across business units to solve complex problems.
- Design robust and scalable systems, dissecting business problems into well‑designed solutions.
- Apply knowledge of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and data storage technologies to select the right tools.
- Ensure projects are delivered and validated, focusing on quality while supporting rapid iteration and innovation.
- Show passion for technology, teamwork, change, and building an industry‑revolutionizing product.
Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years of experience managing engineers as direct manager in a product development environment, preferably with teams spanning multiple technology stacks.
- 5+ years of professional industry experience as a software developer working in agile teams.
- Track record of mentoring and growing engineers.
- Experience managing cross‑functional product squads that include Product Management, Design, and QA/SDET partners.
- Proven ability to own software projects from scoping and estimation to production launch.
- Passion for Agile, DevOps, and Lean approaches to delivering software and value.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical topics clearly.
- Strong opinions on building great software, yet receptive to others’ views.
- Expertise in agile software development processes.
Bonus Qualities
- Direct experience with Ruby on Rails, React, iOS (Swift), or Android (Kotlin).
- Experience managing engineers across multiple technology stacks simultaneously.
- Background managing teams in companies with multiple product squads sharing common platform/infrastructure.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Location
Remote (Joist head office is located in Toronto, Canada). The role can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada. Eligibility to work without sponsorship is required. The position may require travel to our corporate headquarters in Denver, Colorado or to other North American office locations.

Compensation
The target base compensation for this position is $150,000 to $165,000 CAD, with final offers determined by candidate expertise, location, and other factors.
