POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Evening School Guidance Counselor
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 2
RATE OF PAY: $40 PER HOUR
HOURS: 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. (Monday-Thursday)
REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience or Training
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement
  • Previous high school counseling experience
  • Data analysis experience
  • College and career counseling background
  • Master's Degree
Desired Experience or Training
  • Previous high school teaching experience
  • Social-emotional intervention experience

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
PLANNING AND PREPARATION
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of counseling theory and techniques.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  3. Establish goals for the counseling program appropriate to the setting and the students served.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations and resources, both within and beyond the school and district.
  5. Plan the counseling program, integrated with the regular school program, including crisis prevention, intervention, and response.
  6. Develop a plan to evaluate and communicate findings of the counseling program.

DELIVERY OF SERVICE
  1. Assess student needs.
  2. Assist students and teachers in the formulation of academic, personal/social, and career plans based on knowledge of student needs.
  3. Use appropriate counseling techniques in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.
  4. Broker and coordinate resources to meet student needs.
  5. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs.

  2. Maintain accurate records and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  3. Communicate appropriately and regularly with families.

  10. Follow all District procedures related to student attendance, safety, confidentiality, and reporting.
  11. Implement recommendations made in the evaluation and supervisory process.
