Diverse responsibilities include data modeling, ETL, data quality, development of data sources, performance testing, and maintenance responsibilities around existing data warehouse.
Will serve as a role model for less experienced developers. Works under limited supervision of the Data Management and Support team lead with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Duties and Responsibilities:Performs advanced ETL/data warehouse architectural work including data warehouse design, data modeling, and metadata designWorks closely with business SMEs to reverse engineer the rules that govern business processes, corresponding data streams, and associated source systemsTranslates business needs into high level technical designs for business intelligence solutions; applies rapid iterative development methodologies as appropriate to ensure the solution keeps pace with business needsPerform in-depth, thorough, and accurate reporting or ad hoc analysis as neededContributes to the long-term vision of the ETL/enterprise data warehouse (EDW) by delivering Agile solutionsDevelops efficient ETL for loading the data warehouse and makes timely data available for business usersAssists in capturing processes, procedures and other metadata in documentation; ensures that documentation is well organized, complete, and appropriate for the audienceTroubleshoots, supports and maintains the data warehouse and associated tools used by the teamContributes to and follows best practices established by the governance council, data stewards and enterprise data officerDevelops and improves continuous release and testing processesDesigns, deploys, and manages standardized, centralized data sources for agency reportingHelps to establish best practices for development, testing, migration and error handlingImplements and maintains business intelligence security best practices including those related to HIPAAParticipates in the training of junior developersPerforms other duties as assignedOther Duties and Responsibilities:May interact with outside vendors providing dataMay evaluate and recommend action on testing and certification of software and hardware upgradesMay assist in evaluation of third party service providersEssential Work Behaviours:Communicates respectfully and works harmoniously with all co-workers, customers, and vendors.Provides exceptional customer service.Is flexible; able to work under pressure and; able to adapt to change; and able to work on multiple problems and tasks.Takes initiative to prevent and solve problems.Education/Qualification Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, economics, finance, library science, or related business field.Three (3) years of hands on experience in data warehouse developmentThree (3) years of hands on experience in ETL development (creating automated processes and troubleshooting issues)Three (3) years of hands on experience moving and manipulating large data setsTwo (2) years of hands on experience dimensional modeling for data warehousesPreferred Qualifications:Experience in health/life insurance, accounting and financials, or investment data related activitiesExperience with data tools (i.e.
Alteryx, Visual Studio, SSIS, MSSQL)Experience with Azure and agile iterationsExperience with ERP applications (i.e. PeopleSoft, Safyr, etc.)Knowledge of health care claims dataKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Uses all knowledge, skills, and abilities to apply critical thinking to all aspects of the job.Experience with PeopleSoft HRMS or Finance packages preferredExperience with ERD Modeling & MaintenanceKnowledge of business intelligence security best practices including those related to HIPAA.Knowledge of dimensional modeling using star schemas with multiple fact tablesKnowledge of RDBMS architecture and troubleshooting is desirable.
