SUMMARY
Assist teachers in the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) classroom with daily instructional activities and
monitoring student behavior.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to work with students with disabilities such as learning, emotional, mental, and physical disabilities. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all the school district requirements and Board of Education policies.
MENTAL TASKS
Communicating - verbally and in writing. Reading and comprehending instructions received from supervisor. Verbal communicative ability may be required for public contact positions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical is required only to supplement normal sedentary work. Assistance is available in the event heavy physical exertion is required. Work may involve occasional lifting and carrying weights up to 25 pounds or assisting in moving or lifting children or adults. Moderate walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and sitting for extended periods may be required as a normal part of the job. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties.

General office equipment such as: copier, and computer. Some medical equipment.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- An associate degree or higher; OR 60 semester hours of coursework documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; OR
- Obtain a passing score from the Arizona Paraprofessional Assessments (ie. Para Pro, ACT Workkeys, or Master Teacher's Para Educator Learning Network). Must provide a copy of certificate; and
- DPS IVP Fingerprint Card

- Assists ESS students on field trips.
- Assists teacher in routine classroom operations.
- Prepares planned instructional materials. Prepares class and student documentation.
- Supervises student involved in non classroom activities: recess, lunch, etc.
- Implements/follows teachers' instructions of classroom procedures and classroom management, reinforcement, philosophy, and consistency.
• Make appropriate referrals when difficulties arise and the teacher is not readily available.
• Assists with clerical duties, inventory, bulletin boards, etc.
• Demonstrates an understanding of student needs, keeps a firm hand yet is courteous.
