Equipment OperatorThe Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy road construction and maintenance equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of county roads, bridges, and rights-of-way. This position operates a variety of heavy equipment according to established procedures and specifications while ensuring compliance with all safety standards and county policies.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform general road, bridge, and right-of-way maintenance.Operate heavy equipment, including dump trucks, compact rollers, backhoes, emulsion distributors, skid steers, and other assigned equipment.Follow work plans and specifications provided by the Foreman.Safely, efficiently, and effectively operate equipment to complete assigned projects.Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.Maintain awareness of surroundings to protect people, property, utilities, and the environment while operating equipment.Assist with road construction, repair, grading, drainage, and maintenance projects as assigned.Follow all County safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.Report to work as scheduled and maintain dependable attendance.Complete assigned work within established deadlines.Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred.Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Ability to pass a background check and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screening.Knowledge of safe operating practices for heavy equipment.Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to work effectively as part of a team.Ellis County is an equal opportunity employer.
