Equipment Engineering Manager – Energy Systems Manufacturing (Houston, TX)

The Equipment Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall reliability, uptime, and maintenance of all complex manufacturing and facility equipment, with a specialized focus on Medium and High Voltage (MV/HV) production machinery such as winding machines, vacuum pressure impregnation equipment, high‑capacity cranes, and testing apparatus. The role reports to the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary maintenance team of electrical, mechanical, and facilities technicians; drive proactive preventive maintenance while ensuring rapid, high‑quality repairs.
  • Ensure a deep functional understanding of all critical equipment to base maintenance and control on detailed equipment design knowledge.
  • Design, implement, and manage a best‑in‑class Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program for all MV/HV production equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Use a Monitoring and Maintenance System to schedule work orders, track equipment history, manage spare parts inventory, and analyze performance metrics such as OEE and MTBF.
  • Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting of complex electrical systems, including high‑voltage testing bays, transformer winding machinery, and automated controls (PLCs, SCADA).

Asset Management

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Finance on long‑term capital expenditure planning for equipment upgrades, replacements, and new machinery installations.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to manage supplier relationships, contracts, and service agreements for specialized maintenance, parts sourcing, and technical support.
  • Develop and manage the maintenance department budget, continuously seeking opportunities to reduce costs without compromising reliability or safety.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment operations adhere strictly to company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and relevant MV/HV safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all equipment maintenance logs, inspections, certifications, and safety audits.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical (preferred) or Electrical Engineering, or a technical degree coupled with extensive maintenance management experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of progressive industrial maintenance management, with at least 3 years directly overseeing complex, heavy machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Full‑time, on‑site position.

Technical Expertise

  • Hands‑on knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used in industrial production environments.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation for all factory equipment.
  • Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of MV/HV power equipment and controls is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in implementing continuous improvement and Lean maintenance principles; strong root cause analysis (RCA) and problem‑solving skills.
  • Certifications such as CMRP or Reliability Engineering are a strong plus.

Salary Range (annual): $85,000 - $100,000. Actual base pay within this range will be based on a candidate’s years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, and skills. The total rewards package also includes health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays, paid time off, and, depending on the role, may include eligibility for restricted stock unit awards and a discretionary bonus program.
