Epic Certified System Administrator3-Month Contract-to-HireTX-HybridPOSITION OVERVIEWWe are seeking an Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) to join our technology infrastructure team at a leading genetic testing laboratory. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Epic client systems and the underlying infrastructure that supports them. You will work at the intersection of enterprise IT and a regulated clinical environment, ensuring Epic systems are stable, secure, performant, and aligned with the operational needs of a high-throughput genetics lab.

This is a hybrid role based in Houston, TX.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEpic Client Systems AdministrationServe as the Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA), owning the installation, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management of Epic client environmentsManage Epic client workstation infrastructure including Hyperspace deployments, Citrix/virtual desktop environments, and related end-user toolsCoordinate Epic upgrades, maintenance windows, and environment refreshes in alignment with Epic's release scheduleTroubleshoot and resolve Epic client-side issues, serving as the escalation point for system-level incidentsMaintain Epic system configurations in compliance with Epic standards, security policies, and laboratory regulatory requirementsSystems Architecture & EngineeringDesign, deploy, and manage enterprise infrastructure with a strong emphasis on Azure and Linux platformsSupport hybrid cloud and on-premises architectures across the genetics lab environmentImplement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to enable consistent, repeatable, and scalable deploymentsEngineer and maintain systems supporting HPC and clinical workloads unique to a genetic testing environmentOperations, Reliability & PerformanceMonitor and optimize infrastructure for stability, performance, and cost efficiencyPerform capacity planning to support growing genomic data and workload demandsImplement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutionsAct as escalation support for system-level incidents and infrastructure service interruptionsAutomation, Security & ComplianceDevelop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline Epic and infrastructure operationsApply security best practices: patch management, system hardening, and least-privilege access controlsSupport HIPAA, CAP, and CLIA compliance by maintaining secure, auditable, and well-documented systemsParticipate in incident response and post-incident reviewsCollaboration & DocumentationWork closely with Epic application analysts, clinical operations, and IT teams to support deployments and troubleshootingCreate and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and operational runbooksProvide technical guidance and mentorship to support staff and junior team membersQUALIFICATIONSRequiredActive Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) certification – required3+ years of experience as a System Administrator supporting enterprise-scale environmentsStrong hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure and Linux administrationProficiency in scripting languages: Python, Bash, and/or PowerShellSolid understanding of Epic client infrastructure including Hyperspace, Citrix, or VDI environmentsStrong knowledge of system security best practices: patching, hardening, and access controlBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent certifications consideredPreferredExperience supporting Epic in a clinical laboratory, genetic testing, or regulated healthcare environmentFamiliarity with HPC environments: clustered compute, job scheduling, and capacity planningKnowledge of HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, or related compliance frameworksExperience with genomics platforms or laboratory information systems (LIS)COMPETENCIESDeep expertise in Epic client systems administration and enterprise infrastructure managementStrong technical proficiency in Azure, Linux, and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell)Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability, security, and compliance in regulated environmentsEffective communicator across technical and clinical stakeholder groupsSelf-directed with a continuous improvement mindset and ability to manage competing priorities
