The Environmental Technician supports the environmental team in ensuring mining operations comply with local, state/provincial, federal, and company environmental regulations and permits. The role focuses on field sampling and monitoring of water, soil, and other media; conducting inspections; managing environmental data; assisting with waste and spill response; and supporting overall environmental compliance and stewardship at the mine site.

Location : Lone Tree Mine, Valmy, NV

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine compliance sampling and monitoring, including surface water, groundwater, soil, and other media as required by permits and regulations.
  • Perform field measurements (e.g., water quality parameters, flow rates, water levels) using approved equipment and techniques; ensure proper sample collection, handling, labeling, storage, and shipment to laboratories within holding times.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, logs, and records; enter and manage data in environmental databases and spreadsheets; assist with preparation of internal reports and regulatory submissions.
  • Calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and organize field monitoring equipment, sampling gear, and related tools (including boats or other site vehicles as needed).
  • Carry out environmental site inspections of mining, processing, reclamation, and support areas to identify potential non-compliance or risks; document findings and support corrective actions.
  • Support waste management, hazardous materials handling, spill response, sediment/erosion control, and remediation or rehabilitation activities.
  • Assist with wildlife surveys, vegetation/land monitoring, or other ecological programs as assigned.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies; participate in safety meetings and use required PPE; work safely in varied weather and terrain conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and other departments; support training of site personnel on environmental topics when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Certificate (typically 2-3 years post-secondary) in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Earth/Environmental Science, or a closely related field (preferred). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 0-2+ years of environmental fieldwork experience (mining, industrial, or natural resource sector experience is a strong asset). Entry-level candidates with relevant education and demonstrated field skills will be considered.
  • Experience with water sampling, field analytical techniques, environmental inspections, or data management is advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class G or equivalent); ability/willingness to operate 4WD vehicles and boats is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sampling, data collection, and record-keeping.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel); familiarity with environmental databases (e.g., MonitorPro or similar) is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in challenging weather and terrain, hike uneven ground, and lift moderate loads (e.g., 20-50 lbs / 10-25 kg) as required.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of relevant mining environmental regulations and permits (preferred).
  • Prior mine-site or industrial facility experience (preferred).
