Essential Functions

  • Develop health and safety procedures and programs for all departments and monitor safety compliance to reduce risks.
  • Maintain contingency plans, including fire prevention, and procedures for controlling hazardous spills in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements.
  • Supervise maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are always accessible according to regulations.
  • Develop inspection policies and establish regular inspection schedules.
  • Supervise training sessions for emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, and forklift safety.
  • Maintain EPA records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.
  • Monitor professional literature and attend seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements.

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication.
  • Basic computer skills with both word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to drive and inspect both outdoor and indoor areas to observe compliance with established programs.
  • Good communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written.
  • Five years of management experience in the field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related subjects.

Preferred: Master’s degree or a professional designation like OHST, ASP, or CSP is desirable.

Environment

  • Spend approximately 50% of time walking and touring manufacturing areas.
  • Use computer, printer, copier, and telephone.
  • Requires walking (50%), standing (50%) and sitting (10%).
  • Requires full range of body motion such as twisting, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching above/below shoulders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Required safety equipment: hair/beard net, safety glasses and ear plugs.
  • Requires travel by plane and auto for training and exposure to new processes and equipment, visiting vendors/customers.
