Summary:
Provides leadership and direction to the Mt. Holly Engineering organization, including project engineering, reliability engineering, electrical power engineering, technical services, and drafting. Serves as a key technical resource to plant leadership and is responsible for developing engineering capability, maintaining strong technical and engineering standards, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring engineering resources are focused on the plant's highest safety, reliability, operational, process, and business priorities.
Leads the development and execution of technically sound engineering solutions and capital projects that improve plant performance and support Century Aluminum's strategic objectives. Partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Finance, and Corporate resources while maintaining clear accountability for engineering analysis, reliability engineering, technical solutions, project development, and engineering quality.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable the Engineering team, including project engineering, reliability engineering, electrical power engineering, drafting, and technical support resources, while demonstrating and reinforcing Century Aluminum’s Purpose, Values, and Mission and building strong technical capability, teamwork, engagement, and succession depth.
- Establish meaningful measures for engineering, reliability, capital, and improvement initiatives; communicate significant technical risks, project status, priorities, and recommendations clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional stakeholders; and support achievement of plant business-plan and strategic objectives.
- Provide technical leadership in resolving complex process, equipment, electrical power, reliability, and production issues, including root-cause analysis and development of sustainable engineered solutions.
- Lead the plant reliability engineering function, prioritizing resources against the highest safety, operational, production, and technical risks while partnering closely with Maintenance and Operations.
- Develop, evaluate, and execute engineering and capital projects with clear scope, technical basis, business justification, cost, schedule, risk assessment, and execution plans.
- Coordinate development of the plant's five-year and annual capital plans and ensure proposed projects are sufficiently developed and technically sound before approval.
- Evaluate technical alternatives and investments using appropriate engineering and business analysis, including safety, operational impact, reliability, cost, risk, return on investment, and long-term plant needs.
- Identify and advance technologies, automation, controls, process improvements, and other engineered solutions that improve plant performance and long-term capability.
- Ensure engineering designs, projects, and activities comply with applicable safety, environmental, regulatory, Century, and recognized engineering standards.
- Communicate significant technical risks, project status, priorities, and recommendations clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, and support achievement of plant business-plan and strategic objectives. Coordinate the activities of areas to assure focus on safety, training, and labor relations.
Background:
- Education: Bachelors in related field, preferred Master's in related field
- Technical Experience: 7+ years, preferred 10+ years
- Management: 3+ Years, preferred 5+ years
- Manufacturing: 7+ Years, preferred 10+ years
- Training/ Certifications: None, Preferred Registered Professional Engineer (PE); Continuous Improvement, CRE, CMRP, Project Management, or other relevant certification.
- Other Preferred: Experience in aluminum smelting and demonstrated strong project management skills
