Responsible for managing the engineering and maintenance departments; meeting or exceeding goals as outlined by the Plant Manager; interacting with all internal/external departments in an accurate and timely manner; and maintaining general work standards. Responsible for maintaining records and correspondence; working with contractors, engineers, and salesmen; monitoring equipment safety, and powered vehicle operation and maintenance; developing short- and long-term departmental plans; managing preventive maintenance program; assessing the need for and soliciting contract help; maintaining part inventories; ensuring in-plant oil and water purity.
Duties:
1. Manages Engineering and Maintenance departments by:
- analyzing and improving work flow (as it relates to people)
- providing training and training programs
- directing quality improvement programs
- assessing and processing equipment needs
- ensuring company policies are followed
- formulating and communicating departmental guidelines and procedures
- evaluating employee performance
- performing safety audits/inspections
- approving time off
- reviewing and correcting payroll and attendance reports
- developing annual operating budgets for Engineering and Maintenance
- preparing and monitoring capital projects
- complying with Company business guidelines
- ensuring employees follow job instructions in accordance with TS 16949 and ISO 14001 Standards
- completing specific duties as outlined by the Contingency Plan
- assuming direct responsibility for compliance with environmental procedures related to the departments
- developing and managing work schedules
- assigning and reviewing work
- ensuring compliance with company safety policies, procedures and standards, and conducting safety and production meetings
- meeting with appropriate personnel to resolve conflict
- recognizing outstanding performance
- reporting and investigating accidents, and completing appropriate documentation and developing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
2. Interacts with all internal/external departments in an accurate and timely manner by:
- traveling to customers and suppliers as required
- supporting customer launch programs
- performing quality work
- instructing employees on proper performance of their duties
- performing miscellaneous duties incidental to the job
- complying with Environmental, Health, and Safety rules and regulations
- understanding and implementing the requirements of ISO 14001 and the Environmental Management System
4. Monitors and assesses maintenance work by:
- examining past repairs and warranties to determine solutions to recurring problems
- advising maintenance personnel regarding symptoms, problems, and solutions
- contacting equipment manufacturers for repair and operational assistance
- issuing memorandums concerning quotes, safety issues, scheduling changes, etc.
- scheduling and shipping out-of-plant repair work
- reviewing work orders and work reports
- redesigning equipment to meet production needs
- maintaining robot and computer programs
5. Maintains records and correspondence by:
- keeping accurate equipment records
- assessing and processing equipment needs
- projecting inventory needs
- supporting QS-9000, OSHA, Safety and National Electric Code regulations
6. Works with contractors, engineers, and salesmen by:
- developing manufacturing equipment for new product lines
7. Monitors equipment safety by:
- performing safety evaluations of new or relocated machinery
- developing and ensuring compliance with preventative maintenance schedules
- approving use of new or relocated equipment
- composing equipment operating instructions
8. Monitors powered vehicle operation and maintenance by:
- contracting with repair service
- reconciling contractor invoices with maintenance documents
- approving and overseeing major repairs
- ensuring balanced use of vehicles
- ensuring only licensed employees operate powered vehicles
- planning and implementing preventive maintenance
9. Develops short- and long-term departmental plans by:
- projecting and recommending equipment needs
- generating training schedules for personnel
- designing replacement parts for machinery and equipment
- calculating power requirements for new equipment
- creating, maintaining, and reviewing PM database
- assigning individuals to complete work
- revising PM schedule according to equipment use, production schedule, and manufacturer recommendations
11. Solicits contract help by:
- requesting and evaluating quotes and bids
- obtaining approval for quotes and bids
- monitoring performance of contractors
- consulting manuals and blueprints
- contacting sales representatives and manufacturers
- surveying suppliers to ensure cost effectiveness
- monitoring accuracy of purchase orders
- recommending authorization of purchases
- monitoring receipt of ordered items
13. Ensures in-plant oil and water purity by:
- determining and administering treatment for contamination
- performing quality work
- cleaning and maintaining work area
- instructing employees new to the job on proper performance of their duties
- performing miscellaneous duties incidental to the job
- performing any and all assigned tasks to ensure continuity of production and safety of all personnel
- complying with Environmental, Health, and Safety rules and regulations
- understanding and implementing the requirements of ISO 14001 and the Environmental Management System
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent, or 15 years in a related field
- 5 years of maintenance experience or working closely with maintenance
- 3 years at a supervisory or managerial level
- knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, electronic, and general maintenance
