Job Description

Responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The technician serves as an expert technical resource, interacting with Onsite Engineering Operations (OEO) and any third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center and to support operated data centers. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all work performed within mission critical space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and train other technicians.
  • Utilizes safe working practices; can apply lockout/tagout, SDS, applies good housekeeping methods, etc.
  • Ability to type and utilize common administrative and office software.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, floor plans, construction documents, safety requirements, OEM operating and maintenance instructions, job specifications, and MOP's.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
  • Ability to use hand tools and test equipment to install, troubleshoot, and repair new or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines, relying on MOPs, manufacturer's literature, and industry best practices to perform tasks under supervision, and ensures activities are logged in CMMS.
  • When necessary, perform daily walk-through of facility documenting parameters such as power availability, temperature and humidity, alarm status, etc. to be catalogued and compared for identification of discrepancies and trends. Monitor and make necessary changes to site BAS, following site MOP's & SOP's.
  • Capable of implementing all site-specific processes and procedures such as procedure creation and review standards, procedure instructions and templates, reporting an incident or outage, procedure execution, PM standards, CMMS standards and policy, work order and notification, as well as the use of SharePoint to access CE procedures and training content.
  • Understand the sequence of operations, how a failure of a piece of critical equipment impact other systems, and have a holistic view of the critical environment infrastructure.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience supporting mission critical environments with a high school diploma or GED
  • Current electrical/mechanical Journeyman's license preferred.
  • Hands on electrical or mechanical skill, and competence in the area of non-expertise (for example, electrical expertise with a mechanical competence, or vice-versa)
  • Operate and perform both routine and emergency service on a variety of state-of-the-art critical systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical OEM factory specific training or experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience using basic computer applications.
