nJob Description
nJOB SUMMARY
nDesign, specify, and prepare project plans for assigned projects and manage construction and inspection of projects. Prepare KY Pipe models for confirmation of Division of Water requirements with engineering designs.
nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
nResponsible for project designs, project management, and oversite of distribution extension projects.
nReview developer submittals, prepare watermain layouts per Decreed Order with the Division of Water, prepare contracts for developer main extensions, oversee main extension project to ensure execution of designs with project plans, fire hydrant layout with ordinance requirements, and other design requirements.
nProvide technical reviews of relocation plans as submitted by developers, government agencies, and other const. Responsible for civil engineering review and design of main relocations.
nAssist in the development and refinement of preliminary project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure enough resources are available to accomplish capital and O&M projects.
nRecommend potential changes to the scope and schedule to maintain project within the limits of the available resources.
nCoordinate planning and completion of projects internally with operations/maintenance and planning, and externally with utilities, governmental agencies, neighborhoods, and customers to minimize negative impacts and maximize use of limited resources.
nPrepare preliminary, in-progress, and final plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects, or supervise in-house staff or consultants in the preparation of these documents.
nProvide clear concise contract documents in a timely fashion that incorporates appropriate technical standards, in-house procedures, and policies, while meeting the company procurement requirements and capital project authorization procedures.
nManage projects during construction within project budget and submit Change Actions as appropriate in a timely fashion to adjust the project budget for anticipated changes in scope or conditions.
nResolve technical, contractual, and customer service issues in an efficient, cost-effective manner, within appropriate budgetary and empowerment levels.
nMaintain professional competency by self-education and attendance at seminars, training sessions, and meetings of professional organizations.
nMaintain in-house competency through attending sponsored training opportunities.
nDemonstrate the ability to express engineering problems and concepts clearly and concisely in verbal conversation and in written reports.
nMust obtain Engineer-in-Training certificate, or the ability to obtain withintwo years after awardof job. Failuretoobtainwithintwoyearswillresult in removal fromposition
nPerform other duties as assigned.
nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
nMust be able to read and understand engineering plans, Louisville Water Co Standard Specifications, engineering studies, technical journals, and professional publications.
nPossess and demonstrate experience and skills in the development and execution of KY Pipe Models
nIntermediate level skills in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
nAdvanced level skills in Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic.
nAbility to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
nAbility to work independently to complete assigned tasks and deadlines without direct supervision.

nWORKING CONDITIONS
nIn an office environment but is expected to regularly visit outdoor facilities during design and construction of projects. May require periodic visits to other facilities, governmental offices, customers, developers, and consultants. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary for attendance at off-site training, plant, or site visits, and/or conferences. The standard work week is 40 hours.
nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
nBachelor's degree in one of the following engineering disciplines; Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental (ABET accredited or equivalent); and
nOne (1) year experience with water line design, inspection, installation, or other civil engineering related experience (design, construction) or
nhas successfully completed three co-op rotations with water line design, inspection, installation, or other civil engineering related experience (design, construction, etc.)
nValid driver's license.
