Emery Telecommunications & Video has an opening for an Engineer position at the Orangeville office. This person engineers, plans and prepares drawings for all aerial and underground construction projects. This includes fiber optic lines and conduit placement in new areas. This also includes the removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic lines and conduits in currently served areas. This person will prepare drafting designs, reports, and maintain other records as needed.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
- Engineer Work – This person will either engineer projects or work with contracted engineers to complete all engineering aspects of projects.
- Drafting and Design Work - Design and prepare drawings for construction of new aerial and underground fiber optic lines and conduit paths. Design and prepare drawing for the removal or rearrangement of existing aerial and underground fiber optic lines and conduit paths. This will include joint pole use records, drawings, and reports.
- Mapping/Computer Skills – This person must have or be able to gain proficiency in CAD, Google Earth and similar design and mapping software tools. These tools will be used for design, analysis, and job tracking requirements. This person must be comfortable on a computer and using different software platforms.
- Permitting and right-of-way work - This person will oversee the necessary permits and right-of-way agreements to complete the projects as assigned. This will include the selection of routes for fiber optic lines and conduit paths.
- Traffic/Customer Analysis - This person may analyze traffic loads and availability of existing fiber optic lines. This includes preparing forecasts or estimates that take into consideration current and projected traffic to determine if new construction, rearrangements, and removals of fiber optic lines is required.
- Cost Estimation and Forecasting - This person must be able to accurately provide cost estimations and cost forecasts for projects assigned when needed. This will include large and small cost estimates. This person must be very proficient in using excel and other cost estimation software and be capable of the cost estimation requirements.
- Reporting – This person will need to provide continuous reports and updates on project progress, project changes, and related information as needed. Gantt chart experience a plus.
- This person must have strong analytical skills. This person must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- This person must possess the ability to be organized. This job requires the ability to pay close attention to detail and the possess the ability to work under tight deadlines. This person must be able to collaborate across departments and with external entities.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a similar technical field is preferred. Relevant related experience will also be considered.
Position Status: This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. This person will work out of the Orangeville engineering office but will be asked to travel to assigned project sites.
